I've been shooting slugs and slug guns since 1979. And have watched the progression of both arms and ammo over the years. Some of today's combos are very well capable of downing deer at over 200 yards with an experienced shooter.
Anyway, this past Thanksgiving weekend, I had the opertunaty to kill a doe once again, with one of my newer toys, an H&R Ultra Slug Hunter in 12ga. Granted the shot was not over 200 yards like some of the reports I've been reading about. As a matter of fact, this shot was at 26 yards using a Remington Copper Solid which has proven exceptional accuracy from my USH.
So when a feller has a doe standing facing the hunter with no broad side shot, or head shot since she is looking at you (which is where I like to put it on does to save the meat from bruising), what's a feller to do?
Drop the cross hairs just below the chin and shoot.
