    Rifle build question.

Well I am going to have my 700sps rebuilt by Aquila 's

Looking at getting back HS precision pst006, or 007

Diff being 006 length of pull Ajustable only
007 LOP and cheek pad adjustable.

So has one or the other and how well do you like them and why.

Yeah I'm just questioning the quality, function and fit of the HS precision.

Rock Creek barrel should be here Monday. And I'm looking to buy the stock asap, just need some input.

I have HS on 2 custom builds and Im pleased but you don't see many top end customs in HS stocks.

        There's probably a reason.

I like hs just never had one with the adjustable options, that's really the input I'm looking for. How the cheek weld and pad function, fit, easy of adjustment.
Do they rattle or move of settings when firing.

          That kinda thing

          Anyone have the 006/007

                  . 308
Punch paper mostly, range is out to 600m but would. Like to push it to 800if I get the opportunity

Will be used in hunting when applicable.

Right now plans are as follows

                  R. C. M24 5r 30 caliber S. S. Barrel cut and threaded to 22.5" 5/8-24

                  Trued 700 sps action
                  Trued and Bushed bolt.
                  Heavy lug
                  Timney trigger
HS precision 007 Bedded to action.
HS bottom metal not sure about mag system, or just bdl

Bolt knob is already done as is trigger.

Machine work looks to be about 950

Barrel stock and bottom metal looking at about 1300

Once I have everything turn around was quoted at 6 weeks.

Before dropping that much coin, I highly suggest you shoulder and sit behind as many different stocks as you can. You're basically buying the stock blind if you don't see or feel one in person .

IMO, the stock in question is overpriced and will end up costing you more than a Manners or McM which is higher quality. HS builds a nice hunting stock but I would never put one on a $2500 - 3000 build.

Also, HS is very proud of their bottom metal. You can buy similar quality for 1/2 the price by going with a PTG bottom metal. I recently bought (2) Rem 700 SA BDL detach. mag. bottom metal for $99 each (AI type magazines sold separately)

Your numbers above look on the high side; however I'm not sure what's all included. Here are some approximate costs to build a custom rifle:

                        Barrel $350-400
                        True action $150-200
                        Fit, chamber, crown barrel $225
Pillar , glass bed stock $225
                        Stock from $250-1000+

Something to consider, if you're gonna have $700-800 tied up in a Rem 700 action, I'd seriously look into a custom action as you can purchase a Stiller for $925

Most important thing, buy / build what you want. If $$ is no object, go for it

                            Thanks for the help.

I got two quotes and the prices are within a couple hundred of each other.

The stock is what I'm focusing on a d I'll look at the McMillan . I do think have the opportunity to test diff stocks that's why I'm looking for input.

I'll see what i can find.

                            Thanks again.

As long as you're happy that's all that matters

FYI - PTG (Pacific Tool & Gauge) has their DM bottom metal marked down to $75 from $129. Heckuva price

You can get an AI 5 rd mag for $65 and total cost with PTG BM is $140 ; HS BM will set you back $300

Re: McM stocks ; look at the HTG, General Purpose , Remington Hunter, BDL or Winchester Marksman models. They are better utilized for hunting and shooting paper or LR from the bench .
