    Pistol Scope preference?

I'm setting up my .44 Ruger Redhawk with a scope and been studying an reading up on different scopes and have looked at some also. Got my eye on a Leupold FX2 4x right now but $400 is steep:0
    Any info would be appreciated.

Got Bushnell Trophy 2x7's on my .260 Rem. Encore and my .375 Win. Contender. No problems with either.

Interesting topic since I just bought this exact scope from a gentleman in the classifieds for $175. Will try it on my Super Blackhawk for the first time tomorrow.

I've shot the Ruger Blackhawk in .41 for 30+ years and have gone thru the gauntlet of different scopes, each has its good things. I would not buy a pistol scope that has a 20mm objective. Their light gathering ability suks and you have to be straight behind the scope to see the crosshairs. The newer variables with the 32mm objectives IMO are the way to go if you want a regular scope. They have good light gathering ability, and the ability to crank the power up for longer shots, but holding a pistol with the scope on 7x steady is hard to do. I know shoot a 30mm red dot and like it a lot. The advantages with a red dot is you do not have to be directly behind the scope to see the dot and shoot the pistol, faster acquisition of the target. The red dot I use has 11 different powers for the red dot, so shooting in early or late is easy with low power and high power works great midday. One draw back to the red dot is it is useless at night time as the red dot itself will blind you when you try to look thru it.
Im not sure what kind of mount you planning on using but Weaver makes a great mount for Rugers, I've been using the for 30 years with zero problems. One other thing do yourself a big favor and get a good single action trigger job done, you accuracy will be greatly enhanced. Good luck and have fun.

175 was a steal I had it so low because trying to find somebody in need of a pistol scope is slim lol! Hope it works out for ya.
I'm running open sights right now but may give another red for a try that's what I had on a raging bull that I sold on here

I went with the leupold 2.5x8. For hunting purposes you may never need the higher magnification, but it sure is nice when shooting targets at 100 yards from a good rest.

Thanks for all info. Anybody have experience with Red dot and holographic sights on pistols. My avg shots will be 15-30yds but do plan on shooting up to 75-100yds.

Red dots and holo sights are very nice but electronics seem to always fail on me when I need them the most.

I've been shooting a red dot for 5 years and really like it. Most of my shots are under 50 yards but I did shoot a doe at 115 yards a few tears ago. Never used a holo sight, can't help you on that one. With a regular scope you have to be directly behind the scope and have is exactty lined up to see the crosshairs, but with the red dot you don't have to be directly behind it to see the dot and to shoot.

Which brand and model red dot?
Also is this on a .44 or bigger caliber?
