    remington 270 core lock problem?

Savage 110 shooting 130 Remington Core Locks
Gun is a tack driver with this round

spike walks out, 40 yard shot broadside, put crosshairs on spot, pulled trigger, felt like I pulled just a hair but felt good about the shot. Saw spike run away then turn around and come back. Thought it would fall any second but it just stood there looking at the large cloud of smoke around me so I racked another round and put it down.

    Complete miss on first shot.

Thinking back on the first shot it did not sound correct and there was enough smoke to be a black powder gun. There was more recoil than usual and the gun shook.

Any ideas what could have been the issue with the round?

New rounds bought over the summer from the store.

I was shooting pigs Monday night with the same box and I know I hit a pig cause it rolled over and screamed, no blood and it got up and ran away. Next night it took 3 rounds to take a sow down all had very little pass through damage. I shot into the pack of 30 pigs 4 times as they were running and not 1 fell or when slowed down.

Maybe rounds are moving to fast to do damage?

Had something similar happen to me last year. Very good high and tight eight point. Only buck I shot at last season. I had a dead rest, sqeezed the trigger, ( Savage 7/08 ) and shot 8 in. low at about 180 yd. The shot was not as loud as it should have been. Just clipped his brisket. Lotsa white hair and a few drops of blood. Put my JRT on the track and followed his trail until I was sure. Shot the gun the next day, right on the money ! Who knows ? Only consulation is I know the deer will live.

P.S. I have killed coyotes with this rifle at close to 300 yd. with a sorry rest, such as shooting sticks in a pop-up, so I can't blame it on the rifle or the scope. And I quit being nervous shooting at deer with a gun many years ago. Had to be something wrong with the cartridge.

I bought a box of 7mm that was the only box there.. Noticed when I got home that the box came right open (usually the ends are glued).. Found a 270 in the box..

Go shoot a 5 shot 100yd group with that ammo at the range to see if it is your equipment. At best, you get your confidence in the ammo and equipment back. At worst you find your Scope isn't holding zero or something else and you address it. Bring some other types of ammo too in case it really is the ammo. good luck. Let us know what you find out. Can you look at the brass from the smokey shot? If so check out the head stamp to confirm that it was the correct cartridge. Also inspect it for deformity.

Not on this buck, I had plenty of time waiting on him to turn for me.

yep, Did you save the cases?? Compare or post up pics of the primers...i still think you pulled the 1st shot but if there is smoke, there is fire.

Only comparing the fired cases will show if you indeed had a pressure spike...if they both look exactly the same, I got nothing unless you had some strange obstruction in the bbl??
