    Looking for a muzzloader

What is a good but inexpensive muzzloader rifle for deer hunting? I need to extend my buck season a little longer.

Looking for information on makes, models, calibers, powders, loads, bullets, optics.

    Thanks.

Which action is best? Inline, break open, traditional caplock? I would assume the quickest lock-time is the best fir hunting skidish whitetail.

Really any in line that uses 209 primers and can either use pyrodex or modern smokeless will work just fine. Pretty darn accurate when you find the right load for the gun.

Also, look at the Wolf by CVA which is a break open style. I love mine and it shoots great and easy to clean with the breech plug you can loosen with your thumb. I had an inline but it was more tedious to clean. Gander will sometimes have the kits for sale at a pretty decent price. Cabelas will also have deals on them.

Any breach loading "muzzleloaders" out there? Or would that take away from the "muzzleloading"?

Go to Cabelas check out the bargin cave. I like CVA quality guns good price. The optimaV2 has the Bergerra barrel and are very accurate. Look into the Blackhorn 209 powder and Barnes T-EZ bullets. The Backhorn powder is a loose powder but burns clean and cleans up easily.

This is the one I bought but without the scope. I later put the exact scope on it and it works great. If you order it with scope just go ahead and get it bore sighted to make sure. Then, fire away. I use 2 pellets of Whitehots and the Powerbelts, she loves 'em. Time to head to the range.

                    Or this one:

Looks like im gonna go with the CVA. Mostly because quality and lesser price. Hearing good reviews.

Which should I get? Optima V2 or Wolf. I would prefer 209 primer and a magnum. Not sure if either of these guns are. Can someone advise?

I'm liking the break action due to easiness of cleaning.

I have both the CVA Optima and the TC Impact. Both are good guns IMO. Both shoot the same. Both are break opens, which is the only way to go in my book. Bolt actions are a pain to clean.

All the guns you listed above will handle a magnum charge. (150 gr. of powder) By the way, I never shoot 150 gr. of powder. Some bullets don't like to be pushed that fast. Some of the Power Belts have a problem with exploding just under the skin on an animal and not penetrating, if you push them with a magnum charge. I shoot 90 -100 grains and kill deer/hogs, really, really dead!

I will say my Optima is the one that goes to the woods with me. I just love that gun!

You can use a breach loading "muzzleloader" during the general season. During a muzzleloader only season, you can only use one that actually loads from the muzzle.
