    MP-10 or Ruger SR 762

I've been wanting an AR chambered in 308 for a while now, but have stayed away from most secondary to you guys saying they will get to heavy to hunt when scoped . Well I've recently handled both of these rifles and they seem much lighter than the DPMS's, Sigs, and Armalites. I'm leaning towards the M&P 10 just because it's super simple and seems to have a great reputation for accuracy with the 5R rifled barrels. Then there is the Ruger which is a piston gun for just alittle more and seems super nice as well. Does anybody own one or both? I have a budget of about $1500 minus optics and both fall right in that range. I know the benefits of a 6.8 and I will save for that one after I get a 308. Any opinions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks guys and let me know what you think.

I had a Ruger SR-556 chambered in 6.8 and it was a great gun but a bit heavy. I can only imagine how much the .308 version weighs. Havin said that, I bet the Ruger is awesome and will never fail with the piston system. Make sure you are comfortable with the one you choose.

I checked them both out and it looks like he definitely prefers the M&P. Thanks

        Thanks for the info.

Anyone else have any experience with these rifles?

I would go with an Armalite AR10 Budsgunshop has several in stock between $1100-1500

But either way I wouldn't hesitate to shoot any of them.

Few weeks ago I got the Ruger 762, mounted Nikon scope, bipod, purchased 300 rounds 308 Hornady hunting rounds, 500 rounds federal 762 fmj, work and weather haven't let me squeeze a round off yet! Although I have been hugging it every night!

Torture! Please give us a range review when you get a chance. Not that you have it scoped does it seem light enough to tote around the woods without much hassle?

It's heavy, haven't weighed it, but with loaded 20 round mag, I'll guess 11 or so pounds, a caddy would be nice!

Heck I'd be happy with just touching one! I've never seen an OBR in person and have only seen 1 maybe 2 SCARs. Baby steps Artos baby steps!

The Ruger is super heavy! It is nice. There are a few different M&P 10's... Decent guns. I'm really liking the new CMMG CBR MK3. It's got all the goodies and it's still pretty light. I would check it out before you buy something else.
