So I am still on this BOSS system deal...

Another idea: Cut the barrel so the threads arent there any longer. I assume that I would need the barrel recrowned.

Quite a few Thread Protector caps sold for AR's now a days. No need to recrown and you don't have to cut the barrel.

Go to a gun store that carries AR's and accessories see if they have one that fits.

It's loud as all get out and it is bulky. It's a pain in a box blind. In reality if the technology was that great every Manu would sell a version IMO.

I have had a couple of rifles with them and they do work if you are willing to put in the time to monkey with tuning them. My wife shoots a Win M-70 Classic in .25-06 with a boss. Shoots great.

You can get a BOSS-CR which is the BOSS without the ports. That is what I did on her .25-06 since it doesnt need a muzzlebrake. You can still tune it but the recoil and noise level are the same as a standard rifle. That doesn't fix the length and asthetics issues but it does fix the noise issue.

You could also have the barrel cut and crowned.

I think browning sells a thread protector so you can just take the boss off.

Can I have the BOSS? PM me if you take it off. What caliber is it? One of the best things for tuning your gun to any ammo you want to shoot. I cut clover leafs with my .338 win mag using the cheapest ammo I can buy.

If I cut the barrel we can make a deal. If I put a sleeve on it I will keep the BOSS.

Thanks. If you mess with it I think you will want to keep it for the accuracy it give the rifle.

I sold my 300 mag without the BOSS and kept the one with it....Its extremely light on recoil and super accurate....They were both loud....

So I got the gun in ~1999 and sighted and tuned it with Ballistic tips 1" high at 100. I was getting great groups sub 1" usually with two holes touching. Since then I have run probably 10 different kinds of ammo in it from 150 to 200 grain. Never had a group move more than a half inch of 1" high. Never bothered retuning it. Matter of fact I remember once breaking the rifle down and taking the BOSS off when I got mud in the barrel. I just screwed the BOSS back on and got the same groups. I suppose it may increase accuracy but I havent seen enough to outweigh the incredible noise and insane length of the barrel. Just my opinion.

Most Brownings shoot great even without the boss. One big thing I notice is my Abolt hunter in 270 kicks like a mule because it is light. It kicks way worse than my Remington BDL in 7mm rem mag. My dad has a browning Abolt medallion with the boss in 7mm rem mag and I have ran a box of shells through it playing with the boss and it is like shooting a 223.

My 338 kicks like a 243. Carters County had a bunch of targets up and you could see the group size change a lot as he went through the various settings. I know when I set mine up it went from under an inch to over an inch to cutting holes. It makes a big difference.
