    Arrest in Temple Texas

I found the following on Defensivecarry.com
Since it was in Temple Texas I thought I would pass it on.
I know what the Law states but I personally would not put myself in this position for just this reason. I feel his excited remarks only added to the problem. Had he acted responsibly he might have been able to continue his hike. Without knowing Mr Grishom or his charachter it is hard to judge his intent.

Here is the story cut and pasted from Defensive carry:

Christopher Grisham was helping his son earn his Eagle scout merit badge for a 10 mile hike. Rural area, public road, This is Christopher Grisham's personal video which his son finished shoot while the Temple Police detain him. Mr. Grisham is an Iraq Veteran.

The videos may contain a couple very slight vulgarities. PG. Nothing maj

This is the dash cam tapes which police released. They put the dash cam videos together with Mr. Grishams video.

    This is the announced verdict.

IMHO, this is a sad situation. Mr. Grisham did not interact responsibly with the police. He did not exactly resist. He did withdraw from the officer near the beginning and he did grab his gun in a questionable manner. The conversation was of disrespect, taunt, and ridicule by Mr. Grisham.

    What are your thoughts?????????

Just like i say on all these threads, its not about the boy scouts, or his hike, listen to how he was talking to that guy. dont tell me he needed that rifle to protect from coyotes.... He was rude, and seemed to resist. The officer was checking on him.... It doesnt matter if he is a veteran, some may not like this, but just because you served doesnt mean you are sane and a good dude. Ive met plenty of crazy ones. I didnt see the verdict, nor am i gonna read it as i dont care. But if he would have been polite, and cooperated, i do believe the story would have ended much different.

            Spot on.

The AR is a bit excessive for the reason he claims he was carrying it.
With a pack, a small pistol would have been just as effective.
Even if he didn't have a CC, his chances of being searched would have been much less without a firearm strapped to his chest.

His mouth got him put in jail. That and he grabbed the gun after being told not to.

I hate these posts. There is no right answer to these things. The guy should not have been rude, but he also has the right to carry a semi-automatic rifle. Which is what that rifle is. The AR does not stand for assault rifle. It is just a rifle. Are we going to allow someone else to decide what firearm is too "excessive"? Just saying people have completely lost sight of our rights and are settling for less. As long as the government lets us hunt, who cares if some whack-job veteran gets arrested for running his mouth to a LEO?? Last time I checked it wasn't illegal to talk smack to a LEO. Sorry, just tired of hearing of all these dad-gum texans being arrested because Feinstein calls semi-auto rifles "assault rifles".

I didn't catch that part ... there's no reason for all that.

Brother, im as pro gun as they come.... and i would tell that dude to shut the heck up and listen to that officer.... your right, it is his right, and the officer never told him otherwise. people are turning this into something it is not.... they were not going to take his weapon forever.... they needed to remove it to see what he was doing and check everything out. i would have done the same thing. he didnt complay and got ****ty with the cops, so he got what he deserved....and what feinstein calls an AR has absolutely NOTHING to do with anything except her being a moron.
