    Need help AR guys

Trying to break down this gun as much as possible to finish cleaning off existing paint that was on it. How do I disassemble the circled part? I assume it's threaded, maybe I'm just a sissy and can't turn it? Help me out here please!

I had a DPMS Diva that I bought for my wife that had a similar foreward handguard piece and I couldn't get the dang thing off either. I took it to a gunsmith and he had to knock out some pins in order to get the threads all the way off.
That would be my suggestion to you.

Where did you find that upper? Looks like its been to hell and back again.... twice, with a side trip tartarus, where it got lost and made several wrong turns before it finally ended up in your collection.

I had a couple that I really had to torque to get off, I suggest getting a vise block.

This.....a lot will have a couple set screws that keep it from turning and coming loose.

it's not rough... when you strip the paint... give it a good oiling and the matte finish will restore.

Thanks fellas, I got it. Had the girlfriend hold it tight with some channel locks, and I was able to break the threads loose. It was on there TIGHT!!

The paint just makes it look rough, now that I've got it cleaned up, it looks good as new. Thanks for the help!
