    TC ProHunter Problem

I have a new prohunter in a 25-06. I've been breaking in the barrel and sighting it in. The problem I'm having is the action breaks open after the shot without me using the lever to open the action. I shot it in a lead sled and still had the same problem. It doesn't open all the way but it breaks open maybe around an 1/8". Any body have this issue before or know the fix? I havnt contacted TC yet but I'm not shooting it anymore until it is fixed. Thanks for any advise.

Mine don't do that. Bad defect. Do not shoot it. Contact TC.

I've also tried different factory ammo and have the same result.

I never had that problem with mine. You might try a gunsmith. I read somewhere that Thompson was bought out by Smith and Wesson and the facility was closed down and going to be relocated. Hope you get your issue solved because that is a great gun and a really nice caliber.

Call TC and get it fixed. They are slow, but they get their problems fixed. I had an issue with mine awhile back, and they fixed it no questions asked. They aren't the best at communicating, nor telling you what was wrong, but it does return repaired.

Sounds like the locking lug is not completely engaging. The recoil then releases it and it breaks open. A bad defect on a rifle. Return to the manufacturer for repair.Should be a quick fix but a very necessary one.

Is that a barrel problem or action problem. Barrel came from a custom shop and action came from TC

Do you have any other TC parts you can make a visible comparison to? IE- another action? another barrel?

when the TC are new sometimes they are hard to lock up While you are watching TV set there and open and close it repeatedly. I had to do this with mine.

Most likely barrel issue. Sounds like the locking lugs under the barrel may be too tight for your frame. It was likely tested in a frame that has had no telling how many thousands of rounds fired through it and well worn.

Be sure you snap it shut, don't baby it.

www.bellmtcs.com is the go to for all things TC.

It may be just the locking lug is not setting fully due to dirt or powder residue. Get some powder solvent and gun scrubber, a small brash or tooth brush and clean it up.
