    Model 783?

What is the scoop on the new rifle that Remington is showing off? Any insight would be helpful.

Looks like a Savage action and barrel nut. I like the price point. I won't rush out and buy one myself. I will wait for more reviews.

Academy in Temple has them on hand, go handle one. I did, and it's a handy feeling little rifle. Traditional 90 degree bolt throw like a 700iirc, BUT it's their new budget rifle. It will be the replacement for the 770 line, which most purists will tell you stinks. I've never shot one of either, but folks that have a 770 have had good success with them. One thing i will tell you though....because i kind of know you.....you're not going to find upgrades for it....no stocks, no high end bases/rings etc.

You know me well amigo lol! I guess really I am going to look into a smaller caliber for my daughter. Probably a 243 or 25-06, she is shooting my 22-250 but when she gets a little bigger I would like for her to have a step up. Because little sister will need the other gun lol. Just preparing for the future. : )

Go get you a 700 adl for around $379 and put it in the safe. I like .243, but I'm leaning towards a 7mm-08 next. Then find a scope you like and a good base and rings. Later, if you want to upgrade stocks, oder a Boyds laminate and you're in business. It'll only be about 80 bucks more for the rifle and give you infinitely more options, better resale value, known quality etc. Plus, if you can find one with a 20-22 inch sporter barrel, it'll make a nice little lightweight walking rifle for you until your little one is ready for it. Also, youth stocks abound for the 700 line.

The 783 is a budget rifle trying to compete with Savage and Ruger. It's an improvement over the joke of the 710. It's still not a 700. I would save and go with the 700.

              I thought awful hard about a 7mm-08!

So was it the 710 or the 770 that had such terrible problems?

Neither one is very popular with serious shooters. The 770 is basically a revamped 710. No real problems that i am aware of, just that they are generally considered to be low quality, cheap guns. Corners cut like a press fit barrel instead of threaded in, cheap crummy stocks, poor fit/finish, sticky bolt, hit/miss accuracy, and generally low qc. You might get a great one, but the next serial number in the series might be crap.

I think as time goes on you guys may be surprised at what this gun will do.
Who's to say a 700 stock won't fit it now. Maybe a Savage stock will bolt on. It has all the features of a great gun and a possible switch barrel rifle for a cheap price. Reviews have been impressive also.

You may be right. It looked decent, should be a super stiff action. I didn't care for the bolt handle, but that's ready to fix. It may prove to be a great rifle, but for me, right now, it's unproven. The 700, Win m70, Savage 10/110, Ruger m77 Browning etc are all proven. The 783 i handled seemed okay, but the stock felt cheap, along with pretty much everything else about it.

Looks like a 770 receiver with a remmage barrel setup, making headspace easier and faster, read cheaper.
