I have a older model Mossberg 12 guage pump. I've heard a lot about how hard it is to find a slug that your gun will shoot well. Any advice on a slug for my Mossberg would be greatly appreciated. Also, if you recommend 2 3/4" or 3". Thanks.

Scope or open sights? Rifled or smooth barrel? How are you planning on hunting?
Accuracy with a slug is really only an issue if you are using a rifled barrel and scope combo at longer slug ranges. I get decent groups with Hornady SST sabot slugs through a rifled barrel. If you're shooting rifled slugs through a smooth barrel out to 50 yards or so, you're not going to find a difference in results from slug to slug.

Is it a rifled barrel or a smooth bore?
We use smooth bore for pigs sometimes and the easiest thing to do is buy a red dot scope, mount on top, and sight in for the easiest slugs to find where you buy ammo ( I use winchester). 2-3/4 out of a pump is about all you want unless you are hunting for distance (more than 40 yards). Then I would go for a rifled barrel anyways.
I can get 2-3" groups at 50 yards or minute of pig as we like to say.

Can you shoot 100yds with 2 3/4" slugs out of a rifled barrel and get a clean kill?

With a smooth bore, rifled slugs are probably going to be the most accurate. I went through several brands of slugs in my 3-gun shotgun trying to find one that was accurate. I settled on the Fiochi low recoil slug.
Slugs usually come in boxes of 5 and are reasonably priced. Grab 2 or 3 brands and try them out off a bench. Biggest thing with a smooth bore and a single bead for a sight is are the slugs going where you are pointing. I put a set of Truglo sights on my turkey/varmint shotgun to get loads shooting where I was aiming at 60yds.
If its a Mossberg, there are plenty of rifled slug barrels out there for cheap as well. Slugs are just like finding a pet load for your rifle. Try several and go with the one that works for you.
