    Taking a BOSS off

Anyone taken theirs off? My main concern is screwing up the threads.

i took mine off and put the solid piece on it so it wasnt so loud. pretty easy to do and would be hard to mess threads up unless you cross thread it

Did the same on my .270, no thread issues.

at one time, Browning offered a CR (controlled recoil) brake that has no ports .

Not sure if this can still be purchased ... cost around $50

Should be no problem. I have taken mine off with no issues.

I wonder what the thread pattern is cause my rat is on the wheel.

hope your rat's are well versed in machine work

(copy from inet) ...... " My thread gauge and my micrometer show 24 TPI and 0.561" major OD on my mid-90's Browning A-bolt. That would appear to fit just inside 9/16-24, but 0.0015" is too tight for commercial threads. 5/8-24, the next commercial size up, is too loose. I'm going to guess the one on my Browning is meant to be a 0.575-24 thread. I base that on a commercial thread crest that is 70-80% of sin60°*/24" at the crest. If that's right, then about 0.014"-0.021" needs to be added to the diameters of the barrels to find rated thread OD. That works out to 0.575" pretty closely for me and makes yours look like it was intended to be 0.6-24. I bought mine circa 1995, and they may have changed it since then ? ... "

something to consider, Abolts are made at the Miroku factory in Japan. Good possibility the TPI could be in Metric

              .

I do love mine though. I can shoot the cheapest ammo I can find and cut cloverleafs with it. I would put money on them being metric.

                Maybe this will help.

I took mine off and wrapped it in electrical tape, it worked so don't laugh.
