    Savage Actions

Didn't want to Hi-Jack another thread but am looking for a Savage action like the Model 10 or 110 to make a custom 223 and later a 7.62 X 39. I have the barrel for the 223 and would like to get an action that will use the Accu-Trigger.

Have looked some around the I-net but can't find one that's not ridiculously priced.

    Any help is appreciated!

Welcome to Gun , Ammo, Parts buying 2013

Bare actions could be bought for $350 in recent years.

Because of the Greatest Gun Salesman in history living in the White house, high demand and fear factor have led to increased prices and parts shortages

Get use to it, since gun buying will never be like it was pre this administration

best bet is to find a fair priced rifle and use it as a donor action .... sell what you don't need

Look for a Stevens 200 rifle. Its a plain jane Savage action without the acutriger and can be had at places like Academy for less than a bare action. I have seen them as low as $199 on sale.

Like CB says, your going to have to buy a complete rifle as bare actions are few and far between. Northland Shooters Supply carries the Savage target actions.

Haven't seen them at academy in a long time. I think a few years back they had a black Friday sale on them for around 179.00. If I knew what I know now about being able to swap barrels on the Saveges/Stevens and being able to customize them I would have bought ten of them.

I've been buying used Savage rifles to use the actions for future builds. Usually paying $300 or less. I'll sometimes use the rifle till I'm ready for the build. My last great find was a 111 in .308. Pad $300 for it and it had a bi-pod and Nikon scope on it. Sold the bi-pod for $25 and the scope for $125. So now I have a complete rifle for $150!!! I'll get a few bucks from the barrel and stock and after that I'll have paid next to nothing for the action.

I always have my eye out for good "donor rifles". The safe is getting filled with them. I really need to start on some builds.

I've picked up 2 savage 110 complete rifles in the classifieds to use as donor actions. One cost me $225 (with scope), and the other I traded a red dot, and got the gun plus $75 (again, with a scope). If you look around, they can be had for under $300. As mentioned earlier, you can sell the factory barrel, stock, trigger, and scope (if it comes with one), and be in the action for around $100. Probably not going to find a better deal than that. Good luck, it gets addicting.

Can you put an Accu Trigger on the Stevens 200?

Probably not. You can not retro fit a Savage, much less a Stevens.

No but you can put a Rifle Basix trigger in it.

Rifle Basix, Timney, and Sharp Shooter Supply triggers are pretty popular upgrades that can be found through various retailers.
