    Who shoots a 270 wsm

I wanted a magnum rifle so I bought a 7mm Rem Mag but now I'm looking for a short action magnum.

What 270 wsm do you have and how does it shoot?

I don't own one, but a buddy of mine does and he has had some issue with that caliber down in south Texas. Could be completely 2 isolated incidents, but I have since convinced him to shoot another caliber down in Freer.

His DOES shoot tacks...deadly accurate...but it just doesn't seem to have the knock down power we need down south. Our land is EXTREMELY thick, and if the deer doesn't drop dead and gets to the brush it is very difficult to get them out...

The first incident he shot a fairly good sized 10 point at about 90 yards. He hit i just behind the shoulder. The deer kicked once and took off. He waited a good hour to start tracking and we found very little blood. We didn't recover the deer until about 5 days later when we saw the buzzards coming in and out of the brush....some 500 yards from where he shot it. We were able to look the carcass over and their didn't appear to be an exit hole....we could see the entrance but no exit

The 2nd incident is when he popped a doe from about 120 yards. This one ran for about 150 yards and piled up. Very little blood to be found, but I was able to find it by following the terrain. A decent shot behind the shoulder but a hair high...and this time definitely no exit wound.

Could very well be 2 isolated incidents and just bad luck of the bullet hitting the opposite shoulder, but regardless neither deer dropped. I typically hunt with a 150 grain 30 06 and take out the front shoulders and they drop in their tracks 9 out of 10 times...which is what I prefer due to the very thick brush we have...

So while his 270 wsm IS a tack driver, he's had some bad luck with recovery. Just thought I'd share that if you are hunting in an area where you may lose game if they get too deep in the brush.

Just got one. No scope yet. Not shot yet. I'm obviously no help but I'm tuned in!

I have a browning x bolt. I love it. First night out with it I shot at a sow. Just about took the opposite side leg off and killed another 40lb sow standing behind her. Was so excited I ended up just getting in the blind early and waiting for the sun to come up. Soon after it did I shot a 10 point that kicked a little. When it hit the ground. That was using blue box federal ammo. Another trip to sabinal I shot an axis in the neck. She made it over a hundred yards. One tiny pin hole. Same ammo. The top of the neck did not give enough resistance to mushroom the ammo. Only critter I shot that made it that far. I happen to really like my 270wsm. Ammo is high so I wish I would of went with reg 270 or 30-06,308. If I had to do it all over I would go 308. Cheap to shoot.

They are a very very accurate caliber. My issue was blood trails, and as mentioned above, knock down power.

I got a Browning A-bolt , it shoots the Winchester soft tips in 150gr . Never had anything run off from it . Nice wound channels in an out of the animals lots of blood where they have dropped . Yes the ammo is high , but to be honest i really dont see the difference in the wsm and the ol 270 , besides the long /short action .

I have 2 and my wife has 1, all in Remington 700 XCR I. They shoot pretty good and if you reload they're a significant improvement on the old trusty .270. 140gr ABs are shot in all them and has worked from 10yds - 525yds. Excellent round for MPBR zero.

I have a Browning Abolt in 270 wsm. The gun is accurate. I shoot the Winchester Ballistic SilverTips in 130 grain myself. I haven't had an animal move after taking a round. I haven't had great blood trails or exit wounds either, but it's because of the bullet and not the round.

Anyone with complaints about knock-down out of it have a strange expectation of what it should do.

Have shot both a browning and a Nosler in 270WSM and the accubond bullets will not let you down. Plenty of accuracy and knock down power all the way up to an Elk. Just like anything else shot placement is key but you have some room for error with this round. It like whitetails!
