    Boyd's stock ?

Jut picked up a savage 17HMR and I'm gonna throw a stock on it. Looked at Boyd's and the only one they had for it was the SS Evolution. Wasn't a big fan at first, but the more I looked at it the more I liked it. I'm gonna get one with the "Sky" color scheme and was wondering how much work, if any, is needed to put one on. This will be my first stock replacement so I'm not familiar with them at all. Is it an actual "drop in" or do I need to bust out the files to make it fit?

i have one very similar on a pws t3 summit and its SWEET. very very light gun (carbon wrapped barrel)

and boyds makes good stuff. i cannot answer your question about that particular stock, but the few i have had needed small amounts of work, but due to aftermarket parts on my guns

The one boyds stock that I have was a drop in fit on a stock model 70. You might get a hold of Coach W if you want to bed it, if not just take old off, put new on and start shooting.

This is actually a Boyd's stock on my pws. That's what they come with. Only thing making this gun heavy now is the trijicon on top of it lol.

I think you will be very pleased with that stock.

It's bone stock.. No aftermarket anything. Aside from the stock, it'll stay that way too.

I'll bed it eventually when Ike gets his stuff ready.

I was reading on the website and it said I had to buy all new metal for it. Trigger guard, etc which is fine. But it said that file work is necessary. Idk if that's just a disclaimer or what.

Don't know about that specific model, but the ones I have used on Remington 700's have all been almost 100% drop in. Only thing I've had to do was sand a barrel channel to make it free float, and open up the inlet for the trigger guard about 1/16" once.

not at all. all i have had to do was open up the barrel channel (non issue with the stock your wanting) and open up the bottom to clear the adjustment screw for timney trigger on model 700s. nothing major at all

You can use your metal on the Boyd stock. It just don't come with any of the stuff.

I put one on my Savage 7mm-08 (not that exact stock, but one from Boyd's). I used all the existing parts that I had, but I had to file out the trigger guard inlet some to get it to fit. I am extremely happy with it. I did have to buy new bolts to re-attach the barrel because I sent from a synthetic stock to wood.

I can't believe I missed this thread... I need to goof off more.

I saw the evolution but they also have the Rimfire Thumbhole for the savage 93r.. http://www.boydsgunstocks.com/produc...=9800&cat=1217

I've put it's big brother on 3-4 long rifles and LOVE IT! (i dont have a savage 93r though) But the sky color is one of my favorites.

You will be able to slip your action right down in this stock. I doubt you have to do any trimming unless you install some aftermarket parts. if you do a pocket knife, a piece of sand paper, a small file and 10 minutes should get you fixed up.

I would just slap it in the stock and go shoot it. I doubt it needs to be bed... The only rimfire I currently bed is the ruger 10/22 because of the single action screw design.. Bedding the action and 2" in front of the action on the barrel really helps the accuracy of the 10/22.

Just slap the savage in the stock and shoot it. If you do have problems bedding is entirely simple. Just follow the steps making sure not to lock your action into your stock and your golden.

If you have a plastic stock that the trigger guard is part of the stock you will need new bottom metal... Judging from the pic in the "I got a new rifle" thread I'd say you can use the bottom metal that came on the gun.

                          Oh and post pics!
