I recall standing in line with an 83yr old veteran at the Army office to re-enlist. Needless to say they didn't take either one of us back...

I remember standing in the living room before school that day when the twin towers were hit. I do not remember doing any kind of school work that day with everyone glued to the T.V. After school let out myself and 2 other guys road our bikes (yes I was 14 years old) down to the Marine Corps recruiting office to enlist. We knew we weren't going to be taken but it gave us a peace of mind knowing that we did try to serve our country. We ended up enlisting anyway 3 years later.
