    Rem 700 build

Ok fellas so I'm going to start on a BUDGET 700 build. I picked up an older .30-06 ADL for $250 and I'm wanting to make it custom and more accurate but don't want to spend alot.

I want a new wood stock. I want to do the bedding myself. This will be my first attempt at bedding a rifle. Nate, been reading your post from 2012 again. Real good stuff! Gonna come in handy.

I'm keeping the factory trigger and probably the barrel too. I may cerakote the barrel just to give it a "new" look.

For glass I'm either going VX3 or Conquest. Probably just 3x9x40. Only thing is which rings should I get? It has bases. Should i just replace those while I'm at it?

So what I need is advice on the process and where to find a good deal on stocks and BM. Really wanting a good looking wood stock. No thumbholes tho. The wife is a lefty and she's going to shoot this one too.

I will be getting a thumbhole stock for my .257Roberts tho. That one will be MINE!

Keep in mind this is a budget build.

Nate, Matt, Ducks n Bucks.... looking forward to ya'lls input

    Ike

Dude. Ditch the barrel and trigger lol.

Harry Lawson for the wood stock

          Or stockys....

Find the bottom metal off of another 700 with the sheep engraved on it. Very nice!!

Tex what's your budget...? I got some ideas, but I don't know what your trying to do here. Caliber? Is this something you plan to reload for, or just a budget shooter to get you through deer season?

Bedding is fun, its not hard, its just attention to detail and understanding of what your doing, we can knock that out when the time comes.

Are you trying to get a real shooter or something that will hold a inch group only at 100 yards?

I need a little more info bro...

if you want to do some work on the stock you can look at richards microfit. I have no personal experience with them but have considered using them for some projects.

a really nice laminate sounds like the ticket to me, but i would get rid of the trigger. not replacing the bbl means you are stuck with no action work and whatever the barrel will shoot.

Richards is a different look but a TON of work (the red one in my thread is a Richards)

I'd suggest starting off with a boyds thumbhole... 99 bucks and very little work needed to finish.

The first rifle I bedded in that thread is a rem ADL 700 30.06 I bought for 200 bones, cerakoted, added a timney trigger, and PTG bottom metal to convert from and ADL to BDL. So I know EXACTLY what I would do cuz I've done it... and loved it.

I would definitely throw in a timney trigger for it, its only an extra 100 bones and makes the world of difference... plus it takes away the 700 trigger and its trigger that may or may not shoot by itself... it definitely made me sleep better at night removing it.

I ended up selling that rifle when I realized I didnt NEED 3 30.06's but it shot GREAT!!!

One suggestion I would add is a thread on muzzle Break. I use High Tech Customs in colorado for all my breaking needs and never had a problem with them (5 of them now)

Keep us informed and Have fun!!!!

Probably just keeping it in the .06 cartridge. This won't be any fancy custom or wicked accurate wildcat build. I have plans for those later. This is just going to be an accurate (as possible on a budget) I'll be reloading for it of course but it's just going to be more of a good looking all pourpose deer rifle. Won't be pushing it past 3-400yds

Trying to keep total cost under $1,000. Already have $250 in the gun as is. I can probably get $30-40 out of the factory stock. Not really sure if anyone would want a stock barrel.

Looks like I'll be replacing the barrel and getting a Timney trigger too.

Dang. Sounds like that .30-06 build you did is exactly what I'm fixin to do.

                        Thanks for the reply!

Why are you wanting to replace the barrel? I am just curious, seems like you could invest that money elsewhere in the gun. How does it shoot currently?

Still ain't shot it yet. It has iron sights but I haven't taken it to the range yet. I may end up keeping the barrel. Just depends on how much I spend on the rest of the build. If it comes down to it, I'll just cerakote the barrel and call it a day.
