    Looking for a 1911 'smith

I have a project I have been contemplating for a number of years. I have a 1911 that my grandfather brought home for WWII. Mfg date was 1918, but it was refurbished and parkerized sometime during the war. Cosmetically it is pretty good shape, but mechanically it is pretty wore out. Loose as a goose, won't group for nothing, jams a lot. I want to get it back shooting right. Not some custom job with lots of mods, and dang sure not some hack job. Just looking for a good pistolsmith who can set an old warhorse right again. Anyone got any recommendations?

How is it jamming? Failure to feed or failure to eject?

Just fitting a new barrel bushing will do wonders for accuracy assuming you don't need a new barrel. The barrel may be worn out.

Failure to feed is the main problem. I do a lot of my own gunsmithing, but on this deal I would rather just send it to someone and have them make sure it is right.

When was the last time the recoil spring was replaced, on an old gun like that i would just buy an 18 lb recoil spring and a barrel bushing. That will probably fix 90% of the problems and it will still be original.

If all else fails, send it to chrisgunguy.. He'll fix it gooder than when it was new.

I hadn't thought of the recoil spring, I am sure it is pretty tired.
