    Removing Laquer from Ammunition

I got 2.5 Boxes of Brown Bear 223/62 Gr HP ... and they stick in my single shot Rossi. I know how to keep guns clean as I was on an Army Rifle team.

Speaking to another shooter at work ... He said put it in a reloading tumbler to remove the Laquer and it should be OK ... Has anyone ever heard of this as safety is a concern with loaded ammunition ?

If you've used this procedure, How long did you tumble the ammunition ?

By the way, I have them advertised in the classifieds ...

I wouldn't put live rounds in a tumbler.
I think your problem is a dirty gun. Use a 45 caliber wire brush to clean the chamber then be sure to run an oil patch through the chamber. I had this same issue with an H&R single shot and this solved it for me.

As stated above a dirty chamber is probably your problem. I have used brasso on old rounds though.

Steel casings.... That's your problem. Not a dirty chamber.

I would bet on a tight chamber over laquer casing personally.

Tumbling shoulnt be enough of an abrasive to remove it, and doing so will cause the casing to rust, rendering it unusable.

Tumbling complete round is safe. There isnt enough vibration to cause a projectile to strike a primer with enough force to detonate it.

Lol... A whole list of things could be your problem... Brown bear, Rossi, steal cases, lacquer... I'd bet it's all of the above.

One HUGE problem you have....I'd be willing to bet the brown bear is 5.56 mil spec and your chamber is 223 ..

Which could be one reason its sticking and could lead to a massive failure.

It don't have any issue with other types of ammunition to include Non-Lacquered steel case ammo. I cleaned it thoroughly to include the chamber after the last range session.
I use to have a Mosin Nagant that would stick with lacquer Ammo after the barrel heated up.
Not that I want to get any feathers ruffled but the Rossi holds its own at 100 yards ... 1.5" groups which is good for a $ 100 equivalent trade.
I use to shoot completion on the Army rifle team so I know all about the M-16 and its civilian equals.

I thought that too but It's listed as 223 Remington.

Tuffbroadhead & Coach W ... Very good point about Brown Bear being listed 223 but actually 5.56. Mil Spec. The Russians probably don't think about the difference and have a tendency to load on the "Hot" side...
