    Barnes TTS for Texas deer?

My brother gave me a box of 120 Barnes vortex TTS ammo. I shot it this evening and it grouped lights out! Will I have to worry about the bullet not expanding when shooting at deer less than 100 yards? I normally shoot federal fusions

Shoot Barnes in my 7-08,308 and 7STW. Love they way they perform on whitetail, pigs and exotics.

The extra "T" in TTSX is for "tipped" they added polymer tip that boosts BC and improves long-range ballistics. The tip and a re-engineered nose cavity provide even faster expansion.

You should see devastating wound channels.

Barnes makes awesome ammo. I'm not surprised your kicking federal fusion to the curb. You won't be sorry.

What I wanted to hear. The shells just look like little detonators with the blue tip

Killed numerous deer with Barnes TTSX in 270 but I have gone back to shooting Sierra Game Kings they just seem to put deer down harder and faster hardly ever take a step after being hit with the SGK.

My 270 loves em. However all the black buck i shot with em ran quite aways before tipping over. Beaned em too. Very tiny exit wound. There just wasnt enough critter there. For big hogs and bigger game I would shoot em without hesitation. I shot one whitetail doe with em at 110 yards. Right above the heart. She ran behind a a group of trees about 40 yards away and stood there about 10 seconds before she fell out. I do not like em at all for thin skinned animals. Which really hurt my feelings cuz they shot waaay sub MOA. As a matter of a fact no other bullet shoots that good out of my particular 270.

They may be a bit too well constructed for a broadside shot on a sub-100lb animal, but the fact that there's pretty much no angle you can't shoot a large whitetail at and not reach the vitals makes up for that pretty well. Also if you shoot them well, they'll kill the smaller critters just as dead.

You can also use the same bullets on larger game (I am assuming by the weight you are shooting something between a 6.5 and 7mm) with good results if you decide to chase aoudad, mulies, Nilgai, or even elk. Years ago I used the old x-bullets in a 25-06 on African plains game. Worked great on critters from the size of springbuck thru wildebeest.

I started shooting them in my 270 WSM a few years ago. Only Killed one deer with them in that gun but the thing I liked was that you could shoot them in the shoulder, break both shoulders and then follow the bull dozer trail if it scoots off. That's what I shoot out of my 243 now and I shot a buck two years ago at prob 50 yds and he was down within bow range from there. I rattled a deer in in 2010 to about 40 yds and shot him straight on in the chest. He wheeled around and dove off in the canyon and was DRT. I'm set on them, tipped or HP. 85gr TTSX in the 243 and 140 TSX in the 270 WSM.

I shoot the TTSX in my 300WSM and they have deadly results. Deer and hogs do not get away!

Most any bullet with good shot will work. Barnes cost more but consider it insurance against a bad (bone) shot. I hate to pay for insurance....but I only use Barnes for game.

                          Been shooting them for years...

at Texas mulies mostly, but now whitetails in Val Verde County. I've NEVER had anything take more than a single step shooting them out of my 7mm RSAUM. Using the 120 gr. x bullet I once shot clean through two Aoudad at once. I have since developed a load with the 140 TTSX at 3050 FPS and won't hesitate to shoot any whitetail with it. Killed one last year and he left a cloud of dust when he hit the ground. I've also used the 80 gr. TTSX in my .257 Roberts and have killed several deer with it. They all go straight down.

I was thinking they would be ultra deadly out of a smaller caliber.
