I found a left Mark V Deluxe in 257 Wby online, and after a few questions and a few extra pics from the seller, I decided to get it. Sometimes "really nice condition" can be a roll of the dice. I sent the seller the money and every day or so I would go back and look at the pics again in nervous anticipation. Would it be like new or would dings and scrapes be there that the camera didn't pic up?
While looking at the pics one day last week I saw something I hadn't noticed before. Knurled bolt knob, and maybe just a hint of jeweling on the bolt. Maybe I had scored a Custom Deluxe! Then I got really nervous. It would be a tragedy if it were a Custom Deluxe that was imperfect, since these lefty Mark V's are hard to come by in anything other than 300 Wby or a newer synthetic model. I at least had a 24hr inspection agreement with the seller, so I had my fingers crossed when I went to pick it up this morning.
Boy was I relieved to find it wasn't all dinged up. Boy was I excited that it was in fact like new. Boy was I ecstatic when I looked on the floor plate and saw "Weatherby Ultramark"! There are no rubs or dings anywhere, the bluing isn't worn on the bolt knob, and the jeweling on both the bolt and mag follower are still bright and clean. This is one of those few times when a special rifle appears and is not only in amazing condition, but came at a price well below it's worth. The seller's dad had passed away, and he just wanted to unload it without a lot of fuss. Although I didn't steal it, I did get it for several hundred less than its value. It came with a genuine Weatherby Elephant leather sling, Burris 3x9 (which will be replaced with a Zeiss), and 3 boxes of ammo.
Here it is! I can't wait to shoot it and will probably lay a blanket over the bench so as not to scratch it while at the range.
