    Want to build a sbr

I have been looking into building a sbr for awhile and was hoping to get some advice from tbh on where/how to get started. Anyone know of a good place around Houston to get started? Any other advice or recommendations would be great. Looking to stay with either 223 or 300 blackout

I know there are a few guys who set up trusts recently and are going through that process. Have you taken care of the legal stuff yet?

Contact Sean Cody, Set up a trust, then buy a factory 300 SBR, wait 6-9 months...customize as wanted...

im sure i will get comments made again, but if you simply want to go get a gun that is like an sbr get an AR pistol and slap a sig brace on it. No extra work just buy it all and put it together. You can have as short of a barrel as you want. I just got one and tested it out last weekend and it works perfectly

I bet the BATFE will come out with a negative ruling on that in the near future..

          But its legal for now..

I stand corrected, The ATF has already ruled via the technology branch and using the information that SIG provided as its intended use, it is deemed legal...

BUT I would tend to say that at some point the end user would try and shoulder it, THUS making a illegal SBR..

I would have to look up the specifics but idk for sure that shoulder firing the weapon with it on makes it illegal. As far as the aft yes it's good you get the letter stating that when you buy it. Realistically you can't effectively fire the gun using the brace. It's incredibly uncomfortable.

I'm also wanting a SBR....I'm getting the trust put together now. How hard is it to take a stripped lower and have it SBR'd....From what i can tell is, I need to get the trust name, city, and state engraved on it and then fill out a form1 and send it off and wait.

It's not much cheaper than paying the $200 tax and getting the stamp. And a true sbr will be much more user friendly.

To the OP, do you plan on suppressing it? Sbrs are LOUD without a can.

Send everything off and wait till it comes back to do the engraving

What if the engraver messes up or something happends to it in the mail? My luck I would wait the 6-9 months and then the engraver would put the wrong name on it...

If the engraver messes up its not like you are going to change the name of your trust.

the sig brace is incredibly user friendly. But if you dont have a trust and dont want to wait 6-12 months its without a doubt a way to go. The actual cost of the sbr is more than 200 plus the stamp when you factor in getting the trust set up correctly and getting whatever engraved the right way and so on. This is an easy pick it up and go to the range type solution. That why i think its a great product if you dont want to mess with the sbr stuff at the time.

its recommended to have an engraved lower in hand before sending off your paperwork.
                          stuff gets lost/messed up daily...

Yes but I can get another lower engraved and use that lowers SN on the form1. Once the stamp is issued to the lowers SN then your SOL if it gets lost or damaged....

Yes , you can set up your trust, then send off your lower to a engraver...then send off everything for a stamp...

Matter of fact you can build your weapon into a normal rifle length weapon while waiting for your stamp..

When the stamp shows up buy a SBRd upper and install it..
