    Any experience with....

the Mossberg ATR Super Bantam in .243? Its a youth gun. Bass pro has a combo package for $299. I'm thinking about buying it for my 9 year old. This will be her first rifle. Is it a decent starter gun? Pros and cons???

we bought one a couple years ago for my then 8 yo son, the package with the scope and all. it was a dang good shooter, i honestly believe if it had a better scope my husband would have claimed it as his, he grabbed it all the time instead of much more expensive rifles.

My dad and brother both have an ATR, dad's is a 30-06 and my brother's is a .243 both have fluted barrels if I'm not mistaken. Excellent rifles for the money!

You can get a Remington 700 ADL for 349.00. This is the way I would go even if I had to buy a 100.00 scope for it.

Folks hate on mossberg, but I own 2 a 243 bantam and a 270 truck gun. Both shoot sub moa. Fit and finish are lacking, but they are accurate and have good triggers. Like my wife said above, if I sprang for decent glass, that bantam 243 would be my goto truck gun...and I own custom rifles that cost 2k plus.....

I got one for my kids. The only beef I had was the trigger. I replaced it with a Timney. It takes a Weatherby/Howa trigger, but you have to cut the front end of the base of the trigger off.
It is a decent shooter, but wouldn't buy another because of the poor trigger.

The ones I bought had something similar to a savage accu trigger..with a lightening bolt on it. They were good and crisp.

I have a mossberg 4x4 in .338win mag. Shoots great ( besides it kicking like a dang mule ). I have dropped 4 white tails and an aoudad right where they stood with it. Worth the money for sure plus if it gets scratched its no big deal.

I have a 308 cal 100ATR that I bought in 2005. Had to do a trigger job on it but a very solid rifle. The newer models have an adjustable trigger. I contacted Mossberg and asked if I could purchase the new trigger for my rifle and they shot that idea out of the water. Mine is accurate and I like it alright for hunting but it's not a tack driver.

Maybe that is why they were marked down when I bought one. They were clearing them off of the shelves for the newer ones. I hadn't looked.
