Agree with Blake. I have this scope in the CDS model on my 270 wsm and it is a beautiful thing.

          Id respectfully disagree.

50mm beats the pants off all my 40mm in low light situations.

I own quite a few mid to high magnification scopes and the only way i will ever buy another 40mm objective is if I never plan to hunt with it.

Side by side ive shot through a 4.5-14x50 and 4.5-14x40 vx3's as the sun went down at the range. The 50 allowed me to shoot 25-35 minutes after i had to put up the 40mm.

That's huge in hunting scenarios... Prime time and turning down the magnification on a 40mm scope so i can still see is not a situation i like to be in...

Thanks for the input fellas. I've narrowed it down to the 4-14X50. Now just have to decide on brand. Leaning towards the Nikon, but the leupy is not out of question. Now the Zeiss on the other hand is a dream for the future. Need to get this thing topped with glass and zeroed in. Ammo hit me for $80 already so hopefully it will only take 2-3 rounds to get her dialed.

That rifle is a thing of beauty. Go with the Leupold. It's always easier to do things right the first time.

One of the prettiest rifles I have seen recently.

After doing a lot of research before buying glass for my WBY, I ended up choosing a vortex pst. Magnification and focal plane is based on your preference. From what I've read, Vortex's quality assurance is a little tighter than Leupold's and they're cheaper, plus they're warranty is great. Be careful with higher magnification scopes, if they aren't very high quality, they won't do well with mirage and things like that. My vote.....Vortex Viper...cameralandNY has some good deals....

If you get a Leupold, for gosh sakes don't get a VXIII. They are old technology and were discontinued a few years ago. The VX3 is the current model.

If something like a 4-14x50 is what you want, then if it were me I would get this:

Actually, if it were my choice I would get this because it's what I have on my Weatherby. It's a fantastic scope with my favorite plex reticle and the gloss finish makes the rifle look sweeeet.

Give me Nikon over Vortex any day.

Buckmaster or Monarch BDC. Dead nuts!

Maybe it has to do with the manufacturer of the scope cause I read this then did the same thing with 2 nikons and I couldn't tell a difference.. Good to know though.. I'm gonna try it on my 2 conquests..

Nikons are pretty good. Swfa has great prices and quick shipping.

I'd look at vortex... They seem to be the next big thing in optics for the price
