Best bullet weight is going to depend on what you're using the rifle for. Whitetails? Prairie dogs? Targets?

Factory ammo is very limited. 95-100gr is common on the shelves at Academy. I load the lighter stuff,70-85gr ballistic tips are my favorite.

I've really liked the Sierra 85 gr BTHP in my .243. It's not a trophy buck bullet, it's performably superbly on everything from does on down. I've always gotten a quarter size exit wound on does shot broadside and none of run.

thanks a lot for the info I will be hunting anything I put my crosshairs on with it, I head/neck shoot all my critters usually with my custom reminton 700 22-250 w/40 gr vmax bullet never had one run off even shot a boar in the brain pan at 211 yds and a cull 8 point at 257 yds with that same bullet dropped them both.but on windy days I pick up one of my 30 cal rifles but I love my 22 cals

It's about 100 fps faster than a .243 Win and a better case design IMO since it has a longer neck and allowed me to seat the bullets close to the lands but still have enough of the bullet in the case for good hold. I don't like the cases with short necks, such as .308, .243, or .223. But, that's JMO

I have a 6mm and it was my gun of choice years ago.

I have Ruger No1 B 6mm that I bought from a TBHer. It was made in 1974. I bought it still in the box, never fired. It is very, very picky on what bullet I shoot. It still is not shooting like I what it is capable of. From what I have been learning from shooting and reading these guns(Ruger #1's) like the lighter 80-90 grain bullets better than the 100's. Has to do with the rate of twist in the barrel.
                Good luck..
