6.5 grendel AR15 build

Well since I finally found a barrel I decided to put together my 6.5 grendel. I wanted it to be different than my other black gun so I order some Gunkote and started painting.

Started out with:

Americana Arms LLC. Billit upper and lower matching set
Magpul PRS Stock
Midwest 15" quad handrail
Spikes LPK
BHW 20" stainless match .264 LBC barrel
Alexander arms 6.5 grendel bolt.

Scope is a Millett 4x16 with Larue mount that I just robbed off my other AR15 for the pic. still trying to decide with scope I want to.


Here are some of the parts out of the oven after 1 hr at 325*.



This one is after i pulled the barrel out of the oven and but the PRS stock back together with the complete lower.

Thanks. Not sure yet, still need to order ammo. I was figuring it was going to be a while before i found a barrel and never ordered any ammo. Now I'm itching to shoot it.

I haven't kept up with the 264LBC vs 6.5 Grendel, is the ammo interchangeable or do you have to shoot the LBC ammo?

yeah you can interchange the ammo. I am still looking into it because if the 264 will shoot better, I will order all 264 dies and reloading stuff. The only thing better about the 6.5 is that there are a few factory loads for it.

Yeah my understanding is the Grendel has a .300 neck and the LBC has a .295 neck.

The problem is that factory offerings for both are lacking so to realize the full potential hand loading is the best. I load 100 grain Barnes TTSX for hunting and get just a little over 2800fps with an 18" barrel. It puts a thump on pigs and deer.

I really would like to find a 20" barrel with 5R rifling. If my experience with 5R on my .308. carries over to the Grendel I should see a pretty significant velocity gain with the extra length and 5R rifling.
