I'm looking to get a sling for my Colt. What do y'all prefer, 1, 2 or 3 point and why?

It all depends on what you want it for.
Probably the most versatile is the two point. It is easy to use like the one point, only has one strap like the one point but you can sling it different way that the one point cannot do.
The one point is more of a tactical sling and great if you aren't going to do a lot of running or moving when you don't necessarily want at least one hand on the rifle to keep it from bouncing all over the place or you can bungee it to you. Some of our SWAT guys use it to jump out of a van, crash a door, put people on the ground and then stand there. They are moving long distances usually and for their specific purpose, want the weapon right there in front where they can use it. For that tactical purpose, it is great.
The three point is kind of neat and easy to throw it over your shoulder or behind you if needed. It just has a lot of straps to contend with and for me, not quite as easy to shove out of they way as the one or two point slings when transitioning. Your mileage may vary.
I spent 10 years on SWAT and have carried a rifle there and on patrol for 22 years. I use a two point and like it especially now in a patrol unit. I can put it on just as quick as a one point, I can spin it out of the way in the transition to a sidearm and I can get it completely out of the way if I am going hands on are moving a distance. For that purpose I like to use a quick adjust sling like the Viking VTAC or the Vickers VCAS.

I want to carry in front when staking Bring up the weapon to fire while still slung. Be able to slide it around back to get it out of the way.

I can carry my 16" AR on a single but I'm very aware of where the muzzle is pointed... Which scares me unless I have a hold on it. So the sling is pretty much useless if you have to still hold your gun...
I'd look into mikes suggestion. He's good at spending other people's money. Hi Mike!!!
Edit: Mike, vickers has a victory series and a combat series... Which is it that you recommend and y?
Sorry OP.... Stole your thread for a secondLast edited by Coach W; 07-13-2013, 12:34 AM.

I appears that the function of the single point sling is to just take some of the weight off of the shooter while carrying the weapon. Whereas the 2 point allows for hands free when needed.
Has any one tried the Magpul MS3? It is advertised as a combination 1 or 2 point. Best of both worlds maybe?Last edited by Geezy Rider; 07-13-2013, 06:03 AM.

Going off those 2, I like the Viking better.
