It's not in your name. We don't have a gun registration.

Just get a bill of sale and you are good. You don't have to do this but it is always a good thing to do.

Go to Illinois or NY, NY, they would be glad to register it in your name (for a fee) so that you can sell it to someone else.

I've wondered about this, with you living in a 'free' state and me not-so-much. I hope this is not a dumb-*** question. Here, all transfers new and private party must go through an FFL.

In Texas when you purchase (new) from a FFL, they call-in for the background check approval from the form 4473 you completed, correct? They then keep the paper 4473 in their records? I know it does not have the make and model on it- or does it for a pistol?

Then there should be paperwork/ a record that the firearm which was shipped inter-state to the FFL was sold to you, am I correct? For example, if Glock s/n 1234567890 were to turn-up somewhere at a crime scene in Texas, and the LE went to Glock, they have a record that that s/n pistol was sold to Joe's Firearms in Somewhere, Texas.

If LE goes to Joe's Firearms, does the FFL have a sales record (receipt) that the firearm was sold to you that would be released to the LE? Does Joe have to keep his receipts on file for a specified period of time?

If you ever get asked about a gun you legally sold just tell them you sold it at a gun show to some guy names Abdul for his son Jihad...

What if the gun in question had been used in a murder and found in a car that was ID'd at the crime scene? How would your LE react to telling them that? It's the same as saying "I'm not going to tell you".

Just wondering how that's done with private party transfers being legal.

                          God bless Texas.

That 4473 has all of the buyer's info and all of the guns info on it and LE will take that info. If memory serves me, an FFL has to keep records for 20 years. I haven't had my FFL since '92 so I may be off.

                              To the man from California,
It is none of the governments buisness if I own a gun, a knife or a bat.
They all can be for recreation or "murder" in the wrong hands.

To answer the original question, there is no registration transfer in Texas.
                              Nor a state income tax.

                              Yes, GOD blessed Texas.
