My dad bought a 788 in 6mm years ago for me as my first hunting rifle. A year back he took it and a timney trigger to the smith and had him install it. I shot it 5 times and so did dad and we put her back in the safe... We noticed some extra creep in the trigger and my dad said that's the best the smith could do... I've installed many a trigger and never thought this was anywhere near acceptable... But it wasn't my gun and dad was happy...
Through a recent trade I acquired the gun from my dad and decided to put some new wood on it. when removing all the parts as I prep to bed the rifle I notice the trigger is installed incorrectly and quite poorly. A quick google and I find the instructions to install by timney... The prior smith has everything loc tighted up but has failed to even secure the trigger to the gun... It's just dangling loose. The roll pin looks to be put in with a screw driver.. And none of the adjustments have been made to dial out creep or poundage... Timney charges 25 bucks to install triggers dad probably paid this guy 100...
For those of you that have a trusted gunsmith don't ever lose him. The good ones are few and far between.
End rant
