I am wanting to buy an ar in a hunting cal. for my son. Was wondering if anyone has any experience with one or any other ar hunting riffles and cal.

    6.8 spc

Or the Remington in 243 or Any AR10 308 would be good choices imo

An AR10 is going to be too big, heavy and bulky for a kid.

Loot at an AR15 in 6.8SPC.

I had one in 7-08. Too heavy unless he is in his teen then it may be not too bad but as far as for young kid. Too heavy.

The 7-08 with an adjustable Blackhawk stock is great for kids.
          The youth version shorter barrel.
Set one up like this in .243 also.
With the stock there is little recoil.

well I should have said I guess he is 17 about 6 foot tall so weight should not be an issue. he is hunting still with a 7 mm 08 h and r single shot youth model. can't get him to give I up so I was think same cal just don't know how well the work shooting out to 300 yards.....that would be the max range

I saw the "R 25" title and for a minute I thought this was a Taylor Made thread. Error-me...carry on.

For this rifle? You can shoot beyond 300 yards easily!

Doesn't really matter. The AR10 platform of rifles are just too heavy and cumbersome.

Get him a good turn bolt rifle if you want to stick with the 7-08. I prefer the Remington 700 rifles.

This! I had a R25 and they are heavy. Sold it and got a Bison Armory 6.8. Love it.

With the 6.8spc out now for the AR15 platform there is not much need to go to the AR10 (R25) platform. The 6.8 is a 270 (.277) caliber bullet and had enough punch to shoot out to 400 yards fairly easy on whitetail size game.

I've had a few kids, including a 16yr old girl, kill their 1st animals with my AR10 with no problems.

no one said it was impossible, just not ideal.

If you want to buy an assembled AR your choices are few. 5.56 and .308 is going to be mostly what you find. You can find plenty of .308's with an 18in barrel that will be as light as anything in a 5.56. If you want something in a 6.8, .243, 7mm... Etc. your choices are assemble one or search the classifieds daily for a month, and if you want to assemble one good luck getting a lower other than dpms.

You can get an assembled stag 6.8 easily. also 243 and 7mm08 can be found fairly easy in the R25
