Trying to decide the value of this 1903

I bought this thing years ago, and planned on either finishing it out to hunt with or putting it back to it's original look with an original style stock. I've never shot it, the stock has a few dings to it, a chip near the butt plate. Needs a butt plate that fits better, screw holes didn't line up so it's only loosely attached with on screw right now. There's no rust or anything on it, but it shows some wear, after all, it was made in 1918. When I got it I took it to a gun shop and had the guy look it over. He said everything looked fine. Basically I took it off a guy that needed cash, because I thought it was interesting, and just stuck it in the back and forgot about it. Now I'm thinking about trading it off to someone who will put it to use because I doubt I ever will. Would like to put the money towards a 1911 I'm dreaming of. So what do you think I could get for it. Would $300 be asking too much? I see them going for anywhere from $200 - $1000+ on gunbroker, and the 300 mark isn't far from what I gave for it.

Guess I may just slap it in the classifieds here soon and see what happens

You need to make sure it is not a low serial number gun (below 800,000 for Springfield and 285,507 for Rock Island) as these are not considered safe to shoot. (some had problems with heat treating)

If its a high number gun in the condition I see in the photos I'd say lower side of $300 for value.

Thanks. I had never heard that. The number on the receiver is 804***. So this should be good i assume?

If its 804,000 its good as far as the heat treat on receiver goes. If I had the extra cash I'd make an offer on it but I already have two 1903 sporters and 3 bare receivers.
