    I have a Remington 700 5R Milspec 20".

I can tell you shooting the exact same lot of hand loads from a previous 700 SPS Tactical AAC model that I am seeing +/- 200 fps velocity increase.

My 5 shot average with Lapua Brass, Fed match primers, 168 grain Barnes TSX bullets over 45 grains of Varget is 2880 fps whereas they were 2555 fps with the previous rifle.

I haven't shot it for accuracy yet (not seriously anyway).

What components are you using? Brass, primers, etc

          What COAL? Velocity?

Reason I ask is I have the same rifle and loaded this same load yesterday but at 43gr. Mine seemed to shoot best loaded to 2.800 OAL but seemed slow at 2530 ft/sec

That does seem a little slow. I usually average around 2700 fps out if a regular 4 groove barrel.

Hornady cases, fed gold medal primers, Varget about 43 gr and 168 matchking BTHP

            Sierracharlie out....

Winchester brass, CCI 200 primers set at 2.800. I don’t have a chrono so not sure what velocity in shooting. I was guessing around 2640 but not sure now that you said your only getting 2530 out of 43 gr.

Have you done a latter test?

I did one at 500 yards with .5 gr increments. found the 3 loads that grouped and then shot 5 shot groups with the 3 loads. 42.5 grouped the best so I went with it. Then I went out and shot 3 shot groups from 100 to 600 yards and wrote down all the data. Then went back and starting playing with an online ballistics calculator until I typed in the right velocity that matched my drop data. That’s how I came up with the guess of 2640.

I am using mixed brass but mostly Lake city and Hornady match trimmed to length with CCI BR2 primers. Unless my chrony is not reading correctly I thought they were on the slow side.

I have not done a ladder test. I just found a starting point and loaded some rounds and shot. 42.5 - 43 shot the best at 100. I went with the 43 for the best velocity/accuracy load. What's the shortest distance that a ladder test can be performed? Also what loads would you recommend loading for the test since I know 42-43 grs shoot good?

The further the better because you can see the difference in each load better. I would say that it would be hard to see any difference if shooting any closer than about 300 yards. I started with 41 gr and went up .5 gr increments to max charge plus .5 gr. Just be careful when you get close to max charge and watch for bulged primer or cracked casing. What you’re looking for is with loads group the closest. Then you pull those 3 loads and shoot some 3 or 5 shot groups.

Not sure if its the rifling or just seem to be assembled better the action is way smoother than a typical rem 700 that ive messed with the stock is quality. Palm swell is veey comfy. Trigger actually tuned down unlike the one in my sps tactical....overall a great gun.I bought the sps tactical then a timbey trigger now im playing with different stocks....shoukd have bought the 5r to start with 2 buddys I shoot with each own one in 308.I kick myself for not buying it instead of my sps every time I shoot the 5r
