    Need help with XD-XDm

I just sold my Taurus 24/7 Pro 45. I went to local gun shop. Wanting a 9mm because I plan to sell my Taurus PT917c as well. To cover the difference in cost to fund this along with money I have from today's sale.

Here's the pics. I am not really familiar with these as I am starting out with SA now that I own two SA and possibly third one these one. Don't think I will go back to anything else as it is very good company. Fun to shoot and very accurate.

    Appreciate it.

Oh by the way! If anybody has in good condition and want to sell, I will prefer FTF and have proof of CHL so I'm legit buyer.

    Thanks!

Maybe I missed it, but what help are you looking for?

Those are pretty much the same gun (I'm sure you know that), but I enjoy shooting the full size over the compact. Nothing specific, I just enjoy it more for some reason.

Sorry. The full size has a match barrel. The compact doesn't. I'm new. What's the difference between XD and XDm?

the XDM is about .5" longer for improved acuracy, i paid about $500 for my XD 40

          XDM
          1.Adjustable backstrap
          2.Match-grade barrel
3.No trigger pull required for takedown
4.Trigger supposedly a little better than the XD
5.More aggressive grip texture for better grip
6.Grip design change to ease accessibility of mag release
7.More aggressive slide serrations for better grip
          8.More capacity than standard XD
9.Triple-position Picatinney rail for more accessory adjustment options

I prefer XDm, but that's how I am...

Actually... those are both XDm's. There isn't an XD in that picture. The one on the left is an XDm 3.8" (compact), and the one on the right is an XDm 4.5" (full size). Both have what are considered by Springfield to be "match" barrels in them.

If they were 40's, I'd have a definite favorite in the full size, because the .40 is already snappy, but in a compact the snappiness is really highlighted. In a 9mm, not as much. Both should shoot close to the same, with the compact being easier to conceal when the extension and larger mag aren't used.

I have both models shown in .40. My compact usually wears the smaller capacity magazine with Pierce pinky extensions when I'm carrying it, vice the larger capacity magazine with the extension sleeve on it. I occasionally use those mags for practice, but I do practice with the reduced capacity magazines more often. I like to make sure I'm accustomed to shooting what I'm carrying.

Now - the difference in a XD and XDm has more to it. Off the top of my head (and I owned several XD models prior to swapping to XDm's):

              1) Changable grip panels - the rear of the grip is changable on the XDm's, and comes with 3 different inserts - 1,2,3. I have smaller hands, and prefer a 1. It comes from the factory with a 2 installed. XD models don't have that feature. The grip is the grip. The grip patterns between the two are also different.

              2) Match grade barrels on the XDm. Not so on the XD. I haven't seen a considerable difference in accuracy. Someone who shoots better than I do might see a difference. I don't know though. I've never heard of anyone say so.

              3) The top of the slide on the XDm's is slightly angled inward. It's not as "blocky" as the XD, but not much of a difference.

              4) Barrel length's are different. On the XD, it's 3", 4", and 5" (sub-compact, service, and tactical in the 9mm - there are other designations for others such as the .45, and V10 ported models) XDm's are 3.8", 4.5" and 5.25" (Compact, Full size, Competition)

              5) Magazine capacities on the full size mags are different. On the XD-9, subcompact mag holds 13, full size holds 16. On the XDm-9, the compact mag holds 13, and the full size holds 19.

              6) You don't have to pull the trigger on the XDm models to take the slide off. Just pull back the slide, turn up the lever, release the slide, and it comes off. On the XD models, it's the same except you need to pull the trigger in order to have the slide come completely forward and off the frame. No big deal.

              7) 3 normal models of XD - Subcompact, Service, and Tactical. 4 normal models of XDm - Compact 3.8, Full size 3.8, Full size 4.5, Competition 5.25

Thats all I can think of for now.

              I love my XDm's.

              All the best,
              Glenn

Awesome summary between the two. Thank you so much. I guess I will go with the XDm then. I'm not too worry about needing compact or sub ones. I already have XDs 45 for my cc. I want any XDm 9.

Now what's the difference when it says 9sdc? I saw that on the grip. I'm not sure which one.

I've got the 3.8 compact 40, I haven't shot the full size but the "snappiness" doesn't seem to be too bad. I really like it. It goes with me everywhere. Have two 10rnd mags with HPs for defense and carry the 16rd with me at the lease. I never have shot it at paper but I can hit most things just farting around. If you get one, the Pearce grip is a must. Trigger is good, haven't shot any other pistols like it in a long time to have a great comparison too though. The adjustable backstraps are handy also. My GF dad has a XD, and it's a night and day difference between the two as far as the aesthetics and modifications. Never shot his though.

Not sure where you saw that, but I believe you might have read it wrong, or saw it on another pistol. I don't recall that designation on any of them. I just looked at my full size 9mm, and it doesn't have that designation anywhere. Sorry - can't be of help with that one.

I will call and or go in again and look at it again. I was confused as well. I only looked at SA XDm no other guns interest me anymore.

If you already carry the XDs, I'd just go ahead and get the full size 4.5". Or if you can find it... the 5.25". The 4.5" will be easier to find though.
