8th grader at court / possible jailtime for NRA T-Shirt??

Someone tell me we aren't getting the hole story here...

    really??

On April 18, West Virginia 8th grader Jared Marcum was suspended and now faces criminal charges for "obstruction and disturbing of education process," for refusing to take off an NRA t-shirt he wore to school that day.

So he's being charged with obstruction because he wouldn't shut up?

"Logan City Police officer James Adkins says that Marcum refused to quit talking when asked to remove the shirt. The officer said this hindered his ability to do his job."

I would have been an arse if you tried to take off my nra shirt in jr/hs too...so would many have you, but the problem is it was not a plausible problem 20 years ago.

Stupid people are running the country...how many other t-shirts of different topics are an insult to a few and still otherwise supported / indifferent to the topic & 95% of this student body did not even see the shirt until pc police started barking & watched the news??

Really, an nra shirt is a mountain worth dying on for these people?? what is the worst that could have happened by ignoring the stupid shirt??

Texas has similar laws in both the Penal Code and Education Code. The Education Code laws on disruption are use fairly often in my area. Most of them are Class C misdemeanors and end up in citations instead of arrests or more serious charges. It can be a Class B however with up to 6 months in jail.

It is not likely the shirt that got him suspended but his obstructing or disrupting. It could have just as well been chewing gum in class and when the teacher told him to spit it out, he started talking and basically shutting the class down. It is not the issue but the action.

The kid is sitting quietly in class.
The teacher makes an issue of his t shirt.
The police come and make an issue of his t shirt.
The kid doesn't take it off.

..and they're saying he is being disruptive? He was sitting in class doing his work!

He shoulda worn a shirt with the NRA logo- and a rainbow over it. Asking him to remove the shirt would then be a hate crime by the school against the sodomites.
