I have hunted deer with slugs in Ohio. Use lightfields if you want knockdown power. I use a 20 gauge and use 2 3/4" remington regular foster slug. Longest shot I took I knocked a doe off her feet at 130 yards. Up close is fun too. I have used slugs and slug guns all my life. PM me it you have any questions.

I wish I had a picture of my setup for hog hunting! I shot an 870 tacted out with a 20" rifled slug barrel, single point harness, and a red dot sight. I feel confortable taking shots out to 75 yards with this rig. It's a blast to shoot and hell on pigs! Gun kicks like a mule with the Remington sabot 3" slugs. I'd be afraid to be 20' in a tree shooting it. I've killed 12 pigs so far with this rig.

12ga and slugs will put a big pig down in a second at the right distance. 20ga will do it too if you keep the shots to sub 50 yards broad side.
Your set up should get you to 100 yards with a scope and the right slug without much problem. To get more accuracy from your gun you would need to pin the barrel. Like most set-ups, you can have the right gun, but the shooter has to do his part too. And that means being very failure with your arm. I'd suggest spending some time at a range.
With open sights, that would depend on the shooter. But would prob be limited out to 100 yards. 75 yards is much more reasonable for the average slug shooter.
In the hands of an experienced slug gun shooter, and with the right gun set up right, there are guns and shooters who currently shoot out to 200+ yards. And kill big deer. And I've read some reports out to 225 yards. Of course to get to that point, you must spend a lot of time and money on the range. Today's dedicated slug guns have come a long way. The better guns are bolt actions or single shots. I have a scoped 12ga. H&R Ultra Slug Hunter, with a trigger job, that has a documented 1 shot coon kill at 186 yards by another TBHer on this sight.
Some of the modern slugs are reaching velocities of 2,000fps. Course that don't always mean the accuracy is there. But at shorter yardages, it can be very devastating on hogs and big bears.
Many experienced slug shooters are turning to the flatter and faster shooting 20ga these days. There is even a 3-1/2" 20ga,, with slugs, out there now. There are specific shotgun slug shooting clubs and shoots in America today.
Oh, and I took up shooting slugs in Ohio as well, back in the late 1970s.

Back in the '80's, I used to hunt the Big Thicket National Preserve and target hogs. I used regular old Remington 2 3/4" 1oz. 12 ga. slugs, and they are deadly on hogs... MUCH better than buck shot. I'd have used a rifle, but they aren't allowed in the Preserve. Back then, I had a Win. 101 O/U with double beads, and that sucker was deadly with those slugs out to 75 yards using the improved cyl or cyl. bore. winchokes.
