    Help with importing/exporting guns

Looking for name and number of anyone you may have used in importing/exporting guns. I have 3 rifles purchased here in Canada that I need to get back home to Texas.

Have determined my moving company cannot ship them with my household belongs AND based on recent happenings in the US, I may not be able to simply drive them across (with ATF Form 6 in hand).

Looking to engage a FFL licensed importer to work with a Canadian Exporter to get these guns home.

Any ideas/suggestions/names/numbers would be MOST appreciated!!

The time delay is of no concern at this point, only that I end up with them in the end.

Gary, if you are planning on ending up around here and need me to hang on to them until you come back around, I've got room. I can go pick them up from an FFL, etc. Whatever you need.

          Kevin,

Thanks, but probably not needed as we're slated to move back to PG from Canada and I fully expect, best case we arrive well in advance of them! Would however appreciate any support with finidng me a credible importer to help me handle the shipment. I would be totally sick, I had to sell these here, over not being able to handle the shipment. Our Moving Company has again really disappointed me.

I don't know if you need to pay somebody. Here's a link to the RCMP page and the section- but it does specifically say it's for a foreigner living in Canada. Calling them and asking may be the easiest way, 'eh!

It may be as 'simple' as packing it up and shipping to an FFL in Texas (if that is what Texas law requires- I do NOT know).

                    Q. Do I need an export permit to take or ship a firearm out of Canada?

If the firearm is being exported to the United States, individuals only need an export permit if the firearm is prohibited.

An export permit is required for any class of firearm being exported to a country other than the United States, even if the export is only temporary – for example, if someone takes a firearm to another country to hunt or to target shoot. When individuals apply for an export permit, they must include an import permit from the country of destination and from any other countries that the firearm will be travelling through en route.

To get an application and more information, individuals may contact the Export Controls Division of the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada (DFAIT) at 1-800-267-8376 or 613-944-4000, or by sending a fax to 613-996-9709. Faxed information should include a mailing address where DFAIT can send an application form.

Authorities of the country to which the firearms are being exported and any other countries that the firearms may be passing through should be contacted for information on requirements under their laws.

If a restricted or prohibited firearm is being exported permanently, the Registrar of Firearms must be given written notice and provided evidence, such as a copy of an export document from Canada or an import document from another country, that the firearm is no longer in Canada. This can be mailed to the Canadian Firearms Registry, Canadian Firearms Program, Ottawa, ON K1A 0R2.

                      Bill,

You are correct...taking a gun out Canada is about as easy as getting one into Texas, but AFTER getting into the US. It's the US border that makes the paperwork a requirement. I have determined with the proper paperwork (they are one in the same in the way of forms), I can drive them over and once I get them across the border I can free and clear in my drive to Texas. Alternatively, I can ship them out of Canada (for cost of shipping)...but they MUST have their paperwork and they MUST go to gun importer. Who for fee will receive them on my behalf and then mail them to my home in Texas.

It's the importer part that is questionable. We have a new gun shop on 90 not far from PG. I'll be back in town on Sunday, and I can check with them on Monday to see if they can serve as an importer. With them being so close it would make it easier for you. Plus, it's a shop, so they'll be protected.

It may be as simple as shipping to an FFL in Texas. A call to the RCMP number and a Texas FFL (or the Texas Attorney General if they regulate gun laws) may be all it takes.

I'm good a figuring out govt rules and red tape, let me know if you need more help. BTW, I worked for a Canadian company in Ottawa, living here. Good people north of the border- very risk adverse, but good folks.
