    H4895

H4895 and IMR4895 are only 2 spaces apart on the burn rate chart. Is it ok to substitute one for the other on load data?

I might be thinking about this wrong. But goin to say don't try it with out talkin to some one in the business. But IMO just cause the burn rate is close doesn't mean the pressure will
    Be the same. Jmo.

I don't substitute like that. If it's not in my load data for the particular cartridge, I don't use it. That said, check different publications, each book doesn't neccessarily publish all powders that will work for each cartridge.

don't ever mix. Don't assume max load either. If you switch start 10% off your previous powder max load (assuming similar) and work up.

You certainly can substitute them, but the grains you need to put in for the same velocity will likely be different. Has a lot to do with density and shape of each grain of powder. A flat grain can have a similar burn rate to a round grain, but the density will be much different. If you want to use the new powder, I'd look up the reloading data for it and work up a new load. If your reloading book doesn't have the data for it, the powder manufacturer often will online.

You can sub them for each other, but use the load data for the powder you are using, i.e., don't use IMR 4895 data if you are using H4895, etc. It is always wise to back of a grain or two if you are working near max loads and change any component--bullet, case, primer, propellant, etc.
