I am in sales, and I pride myself in thinking outside the box and using unconventional methods to get business. This week I was on a sales call here in Texas with another sales guy that works for us up in Michigan.
The VP had given us a verbal commitment to give us a trial order and we went there to get the written order and finalize a couple details. Upon our arrival the VP started balking at giving us a written PO and was essentially trying to crawfish out of the whole deal.
My Michigan buddy is starting to panic a little at this point. I start pulling out the promotional corporate merchandise: ball caps, golf balls, etc. I see the owner walking up to our little meeting and pull out my piece de resistance, a 225 round bulk pack of 22lr hollow points. The owner's eyes lit up, "Where did you find this?". I smiled and told him we are including 22 bulk packs with new orders. He looks at the VP and tells him he is going to the ranch this weekend and his son has been wanting to shoot his new AR 22, but cannot because he has no ammo. We chat about his ranch for a few minutes and he won't let the ammo out of his hands. He then tells the VP he is going to stash the ammo in his office and for him to give us the order.
The guy from Michigan didn't understand what happened I had to explain it to him in the parking lot afterwards.
