    reloading question

I have always used Winchester or Remington brass. Has anyone ever used Hornaday or Federal brass?

I've used Hornady and Federal brass. All have worked well. I prefer Winchester brass but wouldn't hesitate to use Hornady or Federal.

For pistol I prefer winchester, and I hate federal.

For .223, most of what I use is Federal. I'll take winchester when I can get it, but I've never had problems with federal. I sort my rifle brass by headstamp, and then sort each headstamp by weight.

No problems with any of them. If using mixed brands, you may want to weigh them to make sure the internal capacities aren't too far off, and if so, stick with lighter loads.

Federal brass is a little thinner than most and flows more. Hornady is one of the better made cases.

Hornady is very good brass, just one step below lapua brass. If you mix brass while reloading you should watch for signs of pressure a the case thicknesses is different and can cause pressure spikes if loaded at near max pressures

These days you can't be picky. I have loaded them all.

To me Winchester brass feels cheap in comparison to the Hornady. The Hornady is much thicker. That being said I load and shoot what ever I can find.

I use Win for my .25-06 & .22-250, and Federal for my 7-mag. My experience with Hornady is that its overall length is quite variable. But, if you do a proper accuracy prep, you'll trim 'em to the correct length anyway.

Federal rifle brass has a shorter life than Winchester or Hornady (its softer). Winchester needs a little more prep on vergin brass than Hornady does but both are great brass. Lapua is the best on the market.

I had a Remington 742 that didn't like Federal brass. I think it's a little thicker wall thickness, and it almost always got stuck in that rifle. In my bolt guns, I had no problems. Maybe it was the softness that cwill37 is talking about that caused it to swell more and stick, but that gun just could'nt cycle it.
