    I need a rifle reccommendation

I need a 300 win mag that has a stainless barrell, not super heavy (I plan on taking it to Colorado and other hunts where lots of walking/hiking), but heavy enough not to kill me with each shot. I definetly want a stainless barrrell and synthetic stock. I want accuracy but doesn't need to be a 1000 yard shooter. Weather resistent, it doesn't need to be pretty. I have a Zeiss 4.5-14x44 to top it.

I've been seriously looking and all but decided $750 budget

Check out tikka. I have one in the 300 wsm and it's a great gun.

Up your budget just a little and build one.

      Model 700 action.

      Lilja, kreiger, hart etc barrel.

Tune the factory trigger if your on a budget.

      Used hs precision stock.

      Bases and rings.

Can be done for $1200ish and will be miles ahead of a factory gun.

I'll second this. I have a Vanguard in 7 Mag and we all went in a few years ago and bought my grandpa a Stailess Synthetic Vanguard in 30-06. Both of them are great shooters. In fact, I wanted to give my Grandpa the gun already sighted in so I took care of that for him. Once I got it where I wanted it I put up a clean sheet of paper and shot a 3 shot group at 100 yds. When I got to the target I covered all 3 holes with a quarter and I don't mean touched all 3 I mean made all 3 disappear with a quarter.

Also I can say shooting my Remington 700 BDL (2002ish model) next to the Vanguard (2008ish model) both in 7 Mag both with 165 gr Federal Premium Noslers the Weatherby is smoother.

This is not my gun but I have one just like it in 300 win mag. It's a Remington model 700 lss. I picked it up off here for $600. Couldn't be happier with it.

I've looked into the Savage Bear Hunter and it looked good on computer screen but the price tag made me gasp a bit. $840 otd was the best I could find.

I am certain on the caliber 300 win mag. I have the scope as mentioned below and I will be putting Tally rings and bases on whatever gun I get. I just don't want to over spend my budget when I could get just as good a gun for less.

Those Remington LSS look so sweet, will that stock hold up to inclement weather and not swell in the rain?

Where do you go to get a custom gun made? If I choose that option.

BTW, I have an encore barrel for the 300 but it is a bull barrell and heavier then all get out. My main desire is big caliber for big animals, weather resistent for tough hunting, and as light as possible without beating me up.

x2 Tikka T3 rifles are pretty decent...made by Sako in Finland. Son owns a .308 w/ synthetic stock and stainless brl. Affordable and pretty accurate right out of the box.

I would think you get the look of wood and some of the durability of synthetic in the laminate stock. I wouldn't think that rain wouldn't hurt it any but I haven't personally had mine in any rain yet.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy another vanguard!!! Great rifle and inherently more accurate than other round bottom receivers.

On a side note: a light 300 Winnie is gonna kick like a mule. Get that thing a break, or add weight.

But if you are half interested in the laminate wood stock and want a sexy SS rifle.. Ruger no 1 SS with a pepper laminate... Dang theyre sexy!!!!

I can't remember what ruger my buddy had but its got a blonde laminate stock and is fine! It's in .338 and I shot it 3 times no problem without a break.
