Gen 3 vs Gen 4 Glock

I need a Glock and don't know if waiting for a Gen 4 is going to be worth the wait. Does it really recoil less in the .40 with the new spring? I was really wanting to carry the 9mm for faster follow up shots and 2 more rounds per magazine. Does anyone have experience with the new Gen 4's and had a Gen 3 to compare the two? I know the recoil spring isn't the only "upgrade", I'm also digging the smaller grip.

I prefer and shoot the gen 4 better. I think it has to do with the grip.

Which one do you have? Less recoil?

I can't tell a difference in grips other than texturing. Gen 4 has larger mag release and different recoil spring. Both shoot great for me. I have a gen 3 19 and gen 4 19&17. You can save alittle money if you buy a gen 3.

The store over here has the Gen 4 Glock 17 for $650. I don't know if thats the going price for them.

That's high... $599 for the gen4 and $569 for a gen3 is what we sell them at.

I prefer the the gen 3! And its because of the grip. I can't stand the texture if the gen 4. But then again I have a hogue grip on my gen 3. You can put the recoil spring in a gen 3 I believe.

I do a lot of "fast" but accurate shooting. Never seem to a problem with recoil and follow up shots

I also did the Hogue on the Gen 3 G22. It works really well on the G27.

I have Gen 3 19 and a Gen 4 19 on order. I do like the feel of the Gen 3 better but the 4 is not bad. Have a tungsten RSA on order for the Gen 3 and that should really help on a follow up shot but to be honest after Dales training the follow ups are a lot faster. Any faster and the second shot will be there first...

I have a gen 3 27, gen 4 23, gen 3 22, and a gen 4 35. I don't have the same model in both generations to compare but to be honest I cant tell much difference in recoil unless you compare say the 27 to the 22 or 35 but that is a size and weight issue. I like both generations but if I had to choose it would be the gen 4. I like the grip texture better and the fact that you can change out the back straps to fit you is nice. That being said, if I was in the market and found a good deal on a gen 3 I would buy it.

Youtube Hickok45. He is the guru on glocks. He has good vids comparing Gen 3 & Gen 4 in 17, 19, 22, & 23. You will also see the Talon grips. I've got two Berettas. If I were getting a Glock today, it would be G23 Gen 4. the LEO's I know prefer 40S&W over 9mm.

When I was looking at them, the one thing that steered me away from the gen 4 was the grip texture. Guy at the store said if carried against bare skin it will rub the dog out of you. Just something to consider.

I like the grip on the gen 3 better but that can always be changed on the gen 4 with customs if you want to spend the extra money. If not, go with gen 3

I have 19's in both generations. It it just the angle/size/feel of the grip on the gen 4's I prefer. I shoot it without any backstraps. No difference in recoil to me.

I carry a Gen 4 Mod 22 on duty. We were the first department to get the Gen 4s and they have been pretty problem free. I will say we have had Mod 23 not run as well as the 22. Additionally the stock Gen 4 trigger will never be as good as a Gen 3 due to being a SF trigger. Best Glock triggers have been on older Glocks with 1000 rounds through them.

I can't tell any difference in the recoil between the two.

Good luck with your decision but I would choose a Gen 3 Mod 23 if that's what you are looking for.

For what it's worth, I'm an Armorer and instructor and have seen 150 officers shoot tens of thousands of rounds through them.
