    Compact 1911's

    Hello
I am been looking into an officers or a compact 1911. I picked up a kimber ultra carry on saturday and loved the feel and size. How do these 3 in barrels shoot? Reliable. And is there anything else in that size range that would fit the bill. I like the look of the STI's but have never felt one.

    Thanks for any suggestions

Not a fan of 3" 1911s in .45. I love commander (4") sized ones tho...

I carry a kimber ultra carry everyday. I like it. I cant shoot as well as a full size but its not bad. I like mine. I carry it in a leather milt sparks holster. very comfortable.

I have a SA Ultra Compact in 45 and it shoots very well. Problem with it is weight. It's heavy. Better have a good holster and belt or its going to be heavy to carry.

I also carry the Kimber ultra carry... its very light. and the recoil is a non issue. Its also very accurate and reliable Ive only had one failure from it... Monarch ammo was the culprit (also failed in my glock)... Theres not a negative I have found and have shot 5-600 rounds through mine. I recently bought an EMP in 40 S&W and the Ultra Carry is lighter.

Crossbreed holster and belt, meprolight night sights.

Proper gun belt and a good holster will make a full size steel frame 1911 feel like a polymer gun when carrying.

I carry several 4" 1911 pistols because of their increased reliability over 3".
