I think they're good. I had one in 300WM, 26" barrel and was all black.
Ended up selling and spending the money. I sold for $500 if not mistaken.
        I should have kept it.

I had one of those about a year ago and got rid of it asap. Kicked like a freakin mule. By far the worst recoil gun I have ever owned or shot. $400 isnt a deal on this rifle. Spend that money on something else or save up a few more pennys for a better rifle. Never again will I do a 270wsm. I don't own a single savage rifle, but I'd but a savage before this rifle again. I was not happy. The only thing kool about it is it was a hard hitting son b. I shot a doe in the head and blew the other side of the head off... It was nasty.

I have the same one in a .300 WSM, yes it kicked. Put in one of these http://www.mercuryrecoil.com/suppres...ex.htm#top#top

            and have no issues now.

I've never shot a winchester 70 but I have shot a 270 wsm but it was a browning with a boss brake. My thoughts are with a brake on the end the recoil would be manageable. I almost pulled the trigger on a 300 win mag model 70 a few months ago for a similar price and I'm kinda wishing I would have. Msrp on em is around $750-800 I think.

It is a magnum round which is why it kicks! If recoil is a concern put a brake on it! MSRP is 799.00 for blued, 861.00 for stainless. Id say 400 is a great deal...
