Even Harry Reid, the lead Democrat, voted "No" on the background checks.

Only four Republican senators committed to voting for the amendment ahead of time. The last was Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., who announced his support Wednesday afternoon. The other three were Toomey, Sen. Mark Kirk of Illinois and Sen. Susan Collins of Maine.

Glad we won this round but I would still like to see mccain walk his shin right into a tailgate hitch... I suspect they knew the count before it started.

Reid could have put the nail in this & dropped us in the grease.

Reid is a party leader. Love or hate, and he generally votes for his people. He is also strongly backed by the NRA.

Feinstein bill to ban assault weapons goes down 40-60... I think.

Pragmatism, not cynicism. Wait and see.

They are WAY more resilient than we are. While you're saying, "Yes, we won!," they are already re-shuffling the deck to come at us from another angle.

They already have so much momentum in their favor, it's silly to think common sense applies anymore. The last 2 elections are proof that voting won't stop what's coming. Meanwhile, as all this circus BS is going on, we're on TBH high-fiving each other.

Here comes the "executive action".... because it's the right thing to do.
