I just traded for a Ruger M77 338 Win Mag. The original wood stock was split and it has a really cheap plastic stock right now. The only stocks I can find online are for M77 Mk2 rifles. Mine doesn't say Mk2. What's the difference? Will it work on mine? Anyone have links to a good composite stock?

There is considerable difference between some of the model 77's. Once you determine exactly what you have then you should have no trouble finding a quality composite, walnut or laminate for your rifle. For example. ..one of the 77's had a back tension screw intalled at an angle toward the recoil lug. Very unique.

I'm going to put a McMillan on my Sako 85 later this year. For that type of high country hunting, I'd look at the McMillan Hunter Edge. A very light stock.
Good luck.

Post a pic of your tang.... Your rifle tang.(the safety area)
Then we can be sure you get the correct stock for your rifle. 338 is a long action no doubt... But tang safeties and mkii stocks don't interchange.
Btw the Boyd's stock is real nice... As trophy8 mentioned I like em a lotpretty much a drop in fit. But they get real good after you bed it.
If you decide to bed it here's step by step instructions: http://discussions.texasbowhunter.co...d.php?t=294109
