    Buffer spring question

    I want to replace my collapsible stock with a fixed stock. I called LWRC and told me that I needed the rifle buffer tube and buffer. When I asked about the spring he said it was the same.

    I did notice on Rainer they had a spring that said it would work for both. I always thought you needed a different spring. Anyone know for sure before I make an order.

    I would imagine its the same. If the spring from the adjustable stock works in the fully extended position, it should work in the same position in the fixed stock. Asking as you aren't changing any internals ie. auto conversion or anything it should work just fine.

      Just be sure to match the diameters up- mil-spec vs commercial.

        Umm, no.

        There are two different springs. The buffer tubes are different length between a carbine stock and rifle stock.

        For a rifle stock where you use a A1/A2 length buffer tube there is no mil-spec vs. commercial. Even on collapseable stocks the springs are the same whether mil-spec or commercial buffer tube used.

        Buy the rifle length spring.

              The spring is the same, the buffer and buffer tube are the only thing that changes

                    Springs are the same. Tubes are either mil-spec or commerical. You will need the one to match your buttstock. Example Rock river fits commerical but didnt fit mil-spec. The most important item is having the right weight buffer. I would recommend a H (heavy) buffer for 16" and less barrels M4 style. The buffers affect the cycling of the rifle more than u may think. Been building XM-16 - M16 M4/M6 for 40 years for the military. PM if u need some help.
