I would go ar-10. You should be able to get a good used dpms Lr 308 for that price or a rock river 308. Normally on the ar 15 I would go different brand, but I have found that most if not all companys spend more time and money to produce a ar-10. With that being said I have seen many dpms shoot 3/4 groups at 100 yds.
If you don't want used they run around 1700-1900. That's the route I would good
Maybe I'll jump on that wagon one day. Until then...
why would you compare identical bullet weights ?
Thats a sales pitch Silvers likes to pull but has no place in real world comparison.
Calling the 6.8 exotic is ignorant. its still the 2nd best selling caliber in the AR platform.
The only reason the 300 is as well known as it is is because Robert Silvers joined every forum on the interweb so he could publicize it for free.
Do you know who Dr Gary Roberts is ?
there's no reason to either/or this, just buy one of each and be done.

Why not go with a 50 cal Barrett? I mean if we are going to step up to a heavier more expensive platform?
I like my .300 .
I shoot my 5.56 then make .300 rounds with the brass .
At 300 yards it smacks the steel plate hard . broken the target 3 times from hitting it to many times .
Soon as the fishing slows down I am going to put some pig blood on the .300 .
