    AR questions

Im looking to buy a new AR but I dont know what to get! I have a .223 Rock River Operator and I love it but i want somthing with some more power behind it and alittle more accuracy. I have about a 1300 budget so let me know what you guys think!

    Thanks for the help!!

6.5 grendel, 6.8spc, 300bo, 450 bushmaster, 50 beowolf? Any of those or lots other choices
Just get or build a complete upper and use your lower, save some cash that way

What's so special about the 6.8? Is it pretty accurate?
Also I like the 450 bushmaster but it seems a little overkill for hogs and varmints!

I like the 6.8 SPC II. Not only for the ballistic advantage over 5.56 (Cue raucous debate here), but minimum caliber for whitetail on our lease is .25.
I can use 6.8 for hogs, deer if I wanted and still have a pretty handy utility AR.

That's good to know cause I want an accurate gun, where I hunt there is a lot of open fields that offer 20 to 400 yard shots. How does a 7.62x39 stack up against the 6.8 because I really like the 7.62 round.

Read the development on the 6.8 on WIKI
Explains a lot, 7.62x39 has feeding issues in AR platform.
                6.8 outperforms 7.62x39

If you want accurate 6.8- go with barrels from ARP, Wilson Combat, Bison Armory
My ARP is a 18" match grade stainless 5R rifled barrel. Will easily overlap holes at 100yds, 1.25" 300yd group

Before you switch calibers consider a couple of things. First, a quality AR can be as accurate or more accurate than a bolt gun. Most mass-market ARs like from DPMS and Bushmaster are just parts slapped together. They work pretty good, but you're lucky to get a 2" group at 100 yards. Second, the 75/77 grain open tip match bullets from Hornady, Nosler, and Sierra are extremely lethal. They penetrate 2-3" and then fragment violently. The problem with the AR for many years was an ammo problem.

But if you still want to switch, go 6.8 SPCII. It's purpose built for the AR and killing stuff.

The 6.8 is a good round it's a .30 Remington necked down to .270 and usually available at most sun shops. But uses its own specific mag. The 300 blackout is 223 necked up to a .30 cal and has become very popular. It uses the same mag as your 223 saving money on mags a plus. The blackout ammo is also easy to find at shops ( pre craze ). 7.62x39 is cheap ammo and easy to find but the mags are horrible and have many feed failures. I have had 3 7.62 colts personally. 6.5 Grendel is a fast accurate and flat shooting round but ammo is expensive and hard to find at most gun shops. Internet orders or hand loading will be the best way to find ammo for it.

From what I can gather 6.8 is the way to go but I may still consider the 300 blackout because it sounds good too! Thanks for all the help guys!

What's your max range you want to shoot at?
300blk drops pretty quick compared to the 6.8

I want to be able to put good shot at 200 yards or less. Nothing crazy, i know the 300 is a slower bullet but how fast does it start dropping?

                              From what I've seen, a
                              B/O w/ 220gr bullet drops 100" at 300yds
Heaviest factory 6.8 is the 140gr berger drops less than 15" at 300yds
BlkOut is better for short range suppressed, but that's its only advantage
