    Kahr PM9 vs. PM40

I got some input from the resident Kahr expert (thanks MikeD ) but wanted other opinions.

I really want a Kahr PM40 because I also have a Glock 23 (.40). I also have a Ruger LCP .380 so I don't really want to add another caliber in the PM9.

However, I'm a little concerned about the recoil on the PM40 compared to the PM9. I'm assuming they are roughly the same size but how does the recoil vary?

The PM series are obviously for CC and I wouldn't worry about the recoil. It's not a "range gun"

I do own a own a Kahr P9 and it's not bad at all for putting a few boxes through.

Had a PM40. Right out of the box, I could barely shoot 30-35rds before my hand would fatigue from having to grip it so tight just to control the recoil. I put an Ahrend's A-grip on it, which is like a sticky wraparound felt type grip pad, and after that I could easily shoot 200rds in one session. Highly recommend this pistol!

The pistol is very easy to point aim accurately. I got to where I could dump 7rds into a milk jug at 7yds as fast as I could pull the trigger. I carried 165gr Federal HST's. Only reason I sold it was at the time I wanted a pocket pistol, and it is too heavy for that. It would be perfect for IWB or OWB carry.

My opinion (since you asked )

Buy what you will shoot and what you feel comfortable as a self defense caliber. If you won't shoot it much because you have to go buy yet another caliber, than go with the 40. If it will eat you up inside with your beleife that 9mm isn't good enough, go with the 40. If you are really sensitive to recoil OR beleive that shot placement is more important that KE, then go with the 9.

I passed on a Kahr because I didn't like the take down. Yep, I figured I wouldn't want to shoot it much cause cleaning it would be a pain. Cleaning needs to be quick and easy and I'll shoot it more. Shooting it more means I don't have to worry about how it will work when it is needed.

If it were me, I'd choose 9 and here is why. I have 9s. It is usually in stock. It is cheaper to shoot. 9 is an international standard round. - But that is me, and so I encourage you to go with what it takes to convince yourself to shoot it alot.

I own and carry the P40. It is slightly larger than the PM40. Recoil is stiff compared to my CW9 but very managable. The pistol points very well for me and is plenty accurate enough for CC. I dont put alot of rounds through this pistol. I put 200 or so mixed ammo through it for break in and have put another couple hundred through it in the last 7yrs. If its the pistol you want, get it. I wouldn't try and make it your 300rds at the range gun. Its not designed for that. Do the break in and practice with it on occasion.

I have shot the PM 9 and 40. They aren't uncontrollable by any means. The PM series frame is slightly smaller and doesn't give me a place for my pinky. That kind of bugs me but I can work around that. It is a fine ccw in 9 or 40. I would consider the 9 simply because ammo is cheaper than 380 or 40. More bang for your buck.

              Kahr PM9 vs. PM40

I have/carry a PM9. Love it, I went with it because 9mm is so much cheaper. And I can shoot it twice as much

Alan, it might have been the one I had PM45, but I would get the feed ramp polished. The small frame would not allow it to feed at all with several types of ammo. It almost looks like is about a 75 degree angle. I sold it shortly after. With that being said, I would not hesitate to get another Kahr, but probably a CW. My big hands did not like it.

I have the pm40. I'm not a big guy, but I have plenty strong arms and grip. I have had no problems with this gun the 3 or so years I've owned it. It's not hard to take apart and clean. It's very accurate and very concealable. However, it has a long, albeit, smooth trigger pull and a long reset. Also, it only has single stack mags (a five rounder and a six). Other than this, it's one hellova gun.

I have had & will buy another PM9. I sold it to a friend & TBH member. He carries it daily. It is a great CCW. I have & do carry a PM45 it is a great weapon as well. Never shot the PM40 so I cannot make a comment. KAHR's are great weapons I have never had any issues out of them. As far as I know my buddy has never had an issue out of his PM9.
